Desktop for £600?

Bought a gaming PC on here a few years ago. It was amazing! However, it's now time for a new one.

Would love an SSD and to be able to run all games (not necessarily at top specs)

If it can run virtual machines then that's even better!

Thanks for the help.

To be frank, the difficulty here is that your taking a poor platform and replacing it entirely with a poor platform.

£600 is really too low a budget. The whole point of a gaming PC is that you build a good platform (at the moment that would be an R5 3600) that will see you through for some years, then you can UPGRADE components that need upgrading rather than having to replace the whole thing.

TBH, I would save up a bit more until you have £800 or so, £600 is just going to net you another below average build.

I appreciate the honesty here.

How about an £1000 machine with the additional requirement that it must run several VMs?

How many is several? You'd need probably 4Gb RAM per machine if they're windows based, CPU wise doesn't really change too much.

A grand gets you an excellent gaming system that will also handle VM without issue. Will you be transferring your Windows 10 License from your current system? If so, you can get a 3700X in there (More processing grunt for the VMs). If not, then drop down to the 3600 from the below build.

Note, I've selected Wifi. If you don't need it you could save the £18.

If you were happy to go £24 over budget (or drop the wifi) you could net 32GB of RAM which may help performance of your VMs depending on what you are doing.
