Desktop for Photoshop

I'd really appreciate some advice on a spec for Photoshop. No other locally installed software apart from a browser and AV. I've previously self built but have now got slightly out of touch. Current PC is 8ys old i5 4430 32Gb RAM. GEFORCE GT 710. SSD and WD HD's. It's slow with big PS files and I need also to future proof as far as possible. I've specced 64Gb RAM and one big HD for storage. I back up locally to external disks and also web based storage. I've aimed for about £1500 but can find a bit more if the speed gains are noticable. Quoted spec is as follows:

That's not a very good build unfortunately, it compromises on a lot of the fundamental areas for a build. The main spec of the system seems to be aiming quite high (i7 processor, 2060 GPU) but the budget doesn't really cover that use while ticking a lot of the boxes that I would want for heavy use PS.

You also mentioned having external backups & cloud storage, yet have opted for a 10GB drive?

Foregoing the budget, moving it to the most modern chipset and keeping most of the main stakeholders you can see that things move way over budget. This is even without the HDD you had selected.

To get it more in-line with the budget there needs to be some performance compromises. You will need to have a think about which ones you feel are more important:

i5 vs i7 - I don't think there will be much in this at all for PS, certainly nothing you would notice day to day. I think this is a no-brainer and offers a decent saving.
32GB vs 64GB - Do you really feel that you need 64GB of RAM? That's going to be some serious image scaling if it's the case. I would argue that 32GB should be more than enough. You can't really future proof a constant process, it's something you either need or don't. I wouldn't go overboard until you find you need to, unless you're willing to pay the extra just to have it. I wouldn't compromise anything to get it.
2060 vs 1650 - I actually think the 2060 is a perfect candidate. It'll make a big impact when adding effects (Blur etc) when configured correctly. The budget doesn't allow for it while keeping the rest intact. I would argue that this can be upgraded very easily so I wouldn't choose it over anything else, but if the budget can stretch to accommodate then I would.
Storage - I dropped the 10GB drive, if you really need it then fair enough. I've gone for a very fast primary drive for your OS & Programs, with a still blisteringly paced second drive to use as fast storage and cache/scratch disk (configured in PS). This will make a world of difference as a fast work drive can add so much to editing. This would also mitigate ever needing more than 32GB of RAM.

Everything else is just as you would need it for such a build with such a use. Your build massively compromised on cooling & power.

Thank you so much that's exactly the sort of steer/ poke in the eye I really needed. I'll go back and work on this. I do need/want the big storage drive as that's where my image files sit and I don't want to have to wait while I access them for opening or especially saving. I have 32Gb now so could imagine seeing how I get on with 32 and adding more later. I'll turn this over for a bit. Thank you again for taking the time and trouble.
