Devcon Gamer Spec Questions

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the idea of custom build and would like some help. I have been looking into all-in-one pcs but found most to be compromises. The 32" inch Devcon Gamer however seems to be a good in between but I have little idea how to optimise the specs for my needs. I'm an architecture student so the most intensive tasks I'll need this PC for are renderings. Quick rendering times are important to me as I have a pretty decent laptop already for smaller tasks. Other uses will be like Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Sketchup, CAD etc. My budget is around the £1500 mark. I think I'll need the i7 and a good quality graphics card, above the GTX 960 at least. Could someone please recommend a list of specs for this?

Does it need to be an AOI? A regular desktop would probably give you more options, and better value/ performance per £.

Also, does your Uni/HE Institution give out Windows keys? Some do and this would free up £89 of the budget.

Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of an all-in-one because of the form factor and general "simplicity" of how things look and taking up less space on the desk. I did have a quick look at desktops but found it difficult to find one with a thin tower. I don't think my uni does that but I would consider stretching the budget £100-200 if the specs are considerably better.

Although you can put a PC tower on the floor and then it takes even less space on the desk :) But quibbling aside and sticking with an AOI, perhaps something like:

1440p because why on earth would you want a 32" 1080p screen that you'll be that close to.
GTX 1070 because you want to game on it, and it has a 1440p screen.
i7 because CAD
The rest is just the usual, SSD + HDD, 16gb RAM, better-than-stock cooler etc.

And for contrast, a desktop build:

PCS don't have a huge selection of 1440p monitors, so I'd probably go with something like an AOC Q2577PWQ 25" IPS 1440p screen for ~£220 sourced from elsewhere

Just a quick question regarding the desktop setup, would something similar be able to fit into a case like the Fractal Design Node 202 Mini ITX Case. I tried to configure the same set-up on the website but I don't quite understand how this can all fit into a much smaller case.

I did wonder about an SFF setup when posting earlier, but the Node is really for HTPC setups and doesn't manage temps at all well with a powerful GPU in it. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for your uses. The other mini ITX cases PCS use that support gaming GPUs better aren't particularly small.
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cases/2016/02/11/fractal-design-node-202-review/3 - and that's with a mid-range GPU (R7 250X...)
Maybe it would be okay if PCS used a GPU with a blower cooler. But it's still a maybe. And because the case is really expensive you don't end up saving anything over an AIO.

There was a recent discussion of the case here with another member who was looking for a SFF gaming build. I believe they ultimately decided against the node and looked into sending in a case of their choice to PCS for them to build into. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?50697-Portable-Gaming-PC-What-do-you-think

And a recent thread about the Devcon: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...u-think-about-this-32-quot-Devcom-Gamer-setup

In case the links are of interest.

Thanks for the help, I think I'm going to go with the all-in-one if it doesn't seem likely that the hardware will fit into a smaller case.
