Does PC Specialist ever update the drivers/software listed on the website, or can I go get them elsewhere?

Hello all,

I've been enjoying my Proteus VI so far and it's running well especially after tweaking the voltages. I would like to update the drivers and control center but don't know where to look and I don't trust Windows Update to do the job properly.

I know that Clevo has Control Center 3 for download but presumably I need it for my version of laptop, which as I understand it is a Quanta NL-5E but i'm struggling to find a website that serves drivers or control center software for it.

If there are no updates available in your downloads section, have you contacted PCS to ask them directly if there are any updates for the Quanta control centre?

The only important downloads outwith what Windows itself provides would be from either Intel themselves or the GPU manufacturer. With it being a Laptop I'm guessing Nvidia would be the source for your GPU drivers.

Coincidentally there was a thread on this subject today here...

Specifically mentioning the Intel route for checking for drivers. Other than the Chipset & GPU there isn't really a lot to worry about. If it works.... don't try to fix it till it breaks.

Thanks for your responses,

I do have the Intel driver update utility running, and its covering the Intel based stuff.

However I would really like a newer version of Control Center as I've always seen its performance as rather poor and sluggish.

In the download section on my account here the drivers are all over a year old.

I will ask if there's a link to an updated version of control center. I was just hoping there might just be a Quanta update site that would do it.

I don't believe there is for Quanta or Tongfang, unlike Clevo unfortunately. Let us know what PCS say if you get the chance to ask them.

That might be the case for the drivers, but I know there's newer versions of control center around. It may be that the software wont work on my Proteus 6 / Quanta NL5E but I did specifically ask the questions about it and didn't receive an answer just a link to the file.

As far as I can tell, the Downloads section is just a list of the software supplied with a laptop/PC.

Since purchase I've had to track down software updates to fix some fairly serious bugs, most of which I got from Clevo (https://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_down.asp?lang=en).

Interestingly, at no point has PCS support suggested the Clevo website, even though it appears to be the only way to obtain updated drivers in a lot of cases (and in my case fix an issue that resulted in frequent BSODs).

Clevo are good enough to make their updates readily available whereas quanta and tongfang don’t have a public repository and resellers provide the updates.

I am having the same issue with my Proteus VII and the Control Centre I was told by PCS not to try putting a different one on from a different website as it might affect the lights or voltages differently and to only get it from their Download section

Just spoken to PCS regarding another matter and mentioned something to do with Control Centre; they said dont play with Control Centre.. their exact words were " if its not broke.. dont fix it" and tbh versions dont really matter

If it ain't broke then don't fix it has been a mainstay of software support for decades. It's absolutely true too,its the main reason why drivers don't need updating unless there is an issue or some new feature, it's also why the BIOS doesn't usually need updating u less there is a problem.
