Extreme gaming PC

Hello everyone. New to the forum and looking for advice about buying a new extreme gaming PC after my 10 year old PC has met its match. It's a big purchase for me and I want to know if I'm being rediculous or if the build I've made is seriously redundant in some way.

The monitor I'm looking to buy is the MSI 27" Optix G27CQ4 - 2560 x 1440, 1MS, 165Hz as seen below. I would like to get a 1440p monitor, at least 144Hz. Not sure how worth AMD free sync is. Should I prioritise AMD free sync?

I'm looking to play some of the latest games such as Red Dead 2, Dying Light 2, and the latest Doom Eternal with excellent performance. In the future I also want to use it for VR and am keen to get into streaming. This system will also be used for work involving fluid and stress simulations along with modelling on fusion 360 and Solidworks.

My budget is a bit wishy washy. I'd rather not spend any more than what it is already costing so approx £3.4k is my max (considering I might need a better cooling system).

Any help you all can provide would be super appreciated. Haven't upgraded in a long time so a bit out of touch with what is priority and what is unnecessary. Been through a lot of the guides on the forum trying to update myself. Thank you for any and all responses.

I would switch things around a little. The power and cooling were also quite low for your uses so I've propped them up.

It's worth considering an overclocked build for your uses. It won't help in gaming, but it absolutely will in the other softwares. For the GPU, I would check your vRAM utilisation as vRAM aside I don't think there's much benefit for your uses. The 3080 would fit better IMO, it's a GPU powerhouse for gaming & software, I've selected the 12GB vRAM option in case it is actually required.

The rest is just tidied up a little to make the most of the budget.

The monitor is a fine selection but just be aware that it may not be the most accurate for your professional work. It's a gaming monitor, rather than being aimed at accuracy.

Godlike
For £15 more I would also consider the Asus VG27AQZ over the MSI monitor that you’ve suggested. It’s priced very competitively at the moment and is a great monitor pick that I’m very glad PCS has in stock again.
With streaming in mind down the line it might also be worth considering a dual monitor display in the future. For instance a 4K 60hz display could double up nicely as both a primary monitor for your productivity work, and a secondary monitor while streaming.
Food for thought 🙂

Thank you everyone for the speedy and valuable replies. I have a few questions regarding some of the changes.

Might be a stupid question, but would overclocking reduce the lifespan of any parts? I've not been much of an overclocker and don't know how much it would benefit me.

Does the arrangement and speed of the M.2 and SSD cards make much of a difference to gaming? I don't mind wait times (if that is all it changes) and if I can save some money to spend on peripherals that would be nice.

There won't be any noticeable difference to you with the OC, especially longevity. Sure it'll impact the lifespan, but you're talking about 22 years of continued use instead of 25 :ROFLMAO:

M2 drives are for fast storage, fast loading of games and cache option for the softwares you are using. It'll have a dramatic impact in quality of life when used correctly. I would always recommend a fast storage drive in a modern system, but entirely up to you.
