18" Recoil, Ultra 9, 32GB.
The first thing I noticed while unboxing was the weight of the laptop. It's by far the heaviest I've owned. Certainly a couple of contributors to this weight are the screen size, again, the biggest I've owned and there is the case, which is metal. This reminds me of my previous laptop, a MSI, but the Recoil seems much superior in build strength and the screen hinges a lot chunkier and substantial. (One small tap after a very short fall, while in a laptop bag, and one of the hinges broke on the MSI).
The case and keyboard light patterns and colours are controllable with built-in software and, generally, an illuminated keyboard is always useful. There is an automatic and adjustable energy saving feature on this, as well as on most features of this modern Windows 11 laptop (I had to ask ai how to shut down, since the start menu in 11 was so different).
I was wondering about getting 64GB ram, but settled for the pre-configured 32gb and had read many forums saying I'd never need more than 32, for modern gaming. Still not 100% sure about that, but I played cautious, price-wise. The fans do remain on while playing V-Rising and the case gets quite warm, but not like my old gaming laptop, which was more like an air fryer!
This machine seems capable of handling heavy multitasking, but I'm still wary of having other apps open while gaming. I still need my cooling tray, to be safe. I haven't tried Star Citizen or other more intensive gaming yet, but I did opt for the bigger VRAM card, at 16GB, so I'm hoping it'll handle anything, even if it runs hotter. I want to have this babe for years.
Overall I'm impressed with my new laptop: the speakers seem decent, the earphones are much louder, so beware, and I'm still adjusting to the new, much taller touchpad. The keyboard is quite a reach from the bottom edge of the case but I'm adapting to it. The larger screen is great for gaming, my only concern is if I want to travel with it.
