For that price point, it's a pretty good spec. You wouldn't likely be able to max out settings though. Personally, I'd opt for a RTX 2070 minimum. CPU and RAM look okay. Didn't realize Star Citizen needed 16gb RAM...

I have a Nova personally with a Ryzen 3700x and a RTX 2070, very good machine but more of a desktop replacement than a laptop.

If your budget can stretch to it, maybe look at a machine with a 2070 or 2070 super.

Also I'd swap out the Intel storage for a PCS one and go for the silver warranty for an extra £5.

Yeah star citizen is a killer to try find a laptop to run it I've been looking at the nova with a 3600 variant but the 1hr batt life is going to hurt it as I'm a lorry driver and I dunno if the 24v battery's in truck could handle the power draw on it

You knew how long the battery would last on that laptop before you've ordered it? Where did you find that information? I'm sorry if this question is rather offtopic, or no help to you.

I've ordered a smaller model than yours I believe, as it has essentially the exact same specs. The laptop is a very good one in terms of its performance so far, I've only been using it for one night now. However, the battery on this is truly abysmal. I might want to get something that could hold a higher rated battery if I were you. It seems like that might suit you a lot better.

Ah okay. Well, the Optimus I'm using will only last you 1-1.5 hours. Even when browsing the web etc. I had this on 45% and did basic web browsing with 3 chrome tabs open, ran dry in around 30 mins. And since battery life is something that seems important to you, I wouldn't recommend something like this. Thinking about sending mine back as well too, to be honest. I need at least a good few 3 - 3.5 hours on battery for web browsing (research) and working on word documents for school etc. Sent an email to PCS before I did anything I might regret again as it had reported around 4 hours of battery time and I'm not even getting half that when doing relatively lightweight work :(

TL;DR: If you want something that has a good battery life, which it looks like you do, not too sure the Optimus is a good choice for you. If you're able to keep it on a power supply 24/7 and you can put up with fairly loud fan noises when playing games (Played World of Tanks on minimum settings, fans went crazy), then this is a very good laptop.

Try adjusting settings. By nature, gaming laptops run heavy on the juice. They have large power drawing parts that need more power than the battery can provide.

It's what I've been trying to do, however, I'm not actually sure where else I can lower power consumption settings. Do you know any ways other than the obvious battery saver mode on the battery settings?

@longbow122 sadly no. I’ve seen some people say they get a good 3 hours from the optimus though on everyday tasks. Sounds daft to say but I always find screen brightness is the biggest thing that affects battery. That’s all I have 😂

Thanks for the tips. I've actually recently decided to simply send it back and forget about anything high-performance for a while. Since I'm a CS student I won't be needing at least some of the things the Optimus offers. As much as I agree that's it's a brilliant laptop, the battery is just too big of a risk for me to take when I can easily just get something that's at least a little more battery focused and come back to PC Specialist when I can afford something high-performance when I have less need for a decent battery. Thanks for all the help you gave me either way!
