I've kept the below at your budget (£7 over) and went with what I believe the best selections are. However, there are a couple of things I would consider with a view to maximising the value......

RAM - I would definitely consider 16GB of 2933mhz RAM. The frequency makes a difference and the increased amount covers you for the foreseeable future. For the difference in money I think it's a no-brainer. It's easy when it isn't your cash though :)

PSU - The VS series PSUs are OK, they are the budget option from Corsair though. I would consider the TXm PSU as the minimum for an enthusiast level PC such as this.

If you incorporated the above the total cost would be £916. You would be happily gaming for a few years at 1080p with the below rig IMO. Even future state a CPU upgrade, GPU upgrade and M2 drive upgrade would see you with a monster PC so there is a reasonable upgrade path down the line.

Thanks a lot for the reply, i guess its back to saving again 😅, but if it lasts longer then thats even better and i really want the 8GB Gprahics card. Thanks again!!

The VRAM on the GPU won’t make any difference for your uses.

The 1660 is a better GPU, don't get caught up in V-Ram. There's absolutely no need for 8GB of V-Ram for anything other than 4k gaming....... which no card of this price bracket is going to process fast enough to make use of 8GB.

Think of the RAM as a bucket and the GPU processor as the tap and the display frequency as the hole. If the flow of the tap isn't greater or equal to the drain from the hole then you're never going to fill the bucket. It takes a SERIOUS card to fill 8GB of RAM and make use of the images at a rate fast enough to warrant its place. Some chips will use extra RAM to help with other shortcomings, but the 1660 isn't one of them.

Hmm, so a better ram is necessary, which would be a good ram, that can process a 8gb GPU, considering my current price?

Actually, certain games i intend to play do require a minimum of 8gb GPU

I have a feeling you are misinterpreting requirements, RAM requirements are not the same as V-Ram requirements. When a game mentions RAM it is usually referring to the system RAM, in this case I have recommended 16GB even though I selected 8GB. 8GB would be the minimum, 16GB is always recommended now.

The 1660 I selected is, IMO, the best for your budget and usage. If you want a GPU that can make use of 8GB of RAM you're looking at a 2070 as a minimum, even at that I would say the RAM is overkill. 2080 requires it and the 2080Ti actually uses 11GB as it's a 4k single card solution.

Apologies if i wasn't clear, however i mentioned that one of the games i intend to play stated that a graphics card of 8GB was a minimum. What i wanted to know was what would be a better processor yet at a decent price.

Which game, out of curiosity?

It's not the processor that you need to consider, it's the power of the GPU. To make any proper use of 8GB you're going to be looking at a 2070 Super IMO.

The Game is Rust 😁
How much would that cost and what is a 2070 Super IMO. I'm not very tech savvy...

Rust has an 8GB minimum recommended spec requirement for RAM, as suggested above. The minimum requirement for the GPU is 2GB of RAM which the 1660 more than supersedes.

I would have another look at what I wrote in my previous post...

Please take some time to absorb what I wrote here and anything you don't understand just query as it covers what you are misunderstanding with gaming requirements and what would be best for your needs. The 1660 will absolutely demolish Rust at 1080p.

Well you said that the 1660 was good budget wise and for usage, although you went on to say that if i wanted a GPU that can make use of 8GB of RAM, 2070 was a minimum. I did ask you what you meant by the 2070 super and how much that would cost.

Today you say that I've met the rust requirement for the RAM and suggested the mimium requirement for the GPU along with saying that the 1660 does more than just replace.

From reading what you have said, i assume the parts disscussed above do meet the requirements, however can be considered to be wasteful and overkill on the practical use of the PC( gaming among other things) and the build.

Correct

, although you went on to say that if i wanted a GPU that can make use of 8GB of RAM, 2070 was a minimum. I did ask you what you meant by the 2070 super and how much that would cost.

You were caught up in "making use of 8GB" due to misinterpreting the requirements for the game. I suggested that in order to make use of 8GB of V-Ram you would need a 2070. The 2070 is a GPU, similar to the 1660, only hugely more expensive and a complete waste of money for your intended use. It was said in order to highlight the difference in cost and also to highlight the misunderstanding that you had with how VRAM is used.

Today you say that I've met the rust requirement for the RAM and suggested the mimium requirement for the GPU along with saying that the 1660 does more than just replace.

The minimum requirement for the GPU is 2GB of V-Ram. Something that makes absolutely no odds. The 1660 has 6GB of V-Ram, 3 times the minimum requirement. The recommended spec for the game is an old 970 GPU. The 1660 is more powerful and better than this GPU, which additionally only has 4GB of VRam.

From reading what you have said, i assume the parts disscussed above do meet the requirements, however can be considered to be wasteful and overkill on the practical use of the PC( gaming among other things) and the build.

Correct. The 1660 is more than enough for what you are looking to do. The 2070 would be completely wasteful for your system and the games you wish to play. This has been stated throughout this thread but when you were adamant about using 8GB of VRAM I proposed the first real option that would do this.

Oh, then the specs above at the very least meet the requirements of the games im looking to play?

So the 8GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2666MHz (2 x 4GB) is ok, or is it something else i need to consider?

8GB is OK, not ideal. 16GB would be ideal, as per the initial recommendation, but it doesn't fit within your budget.

You're left with £66 to save if you want the RAM and the PSU. At the end of the month Black Friday & Cyber Monday are coming so there may well be savings to have that will allow you to get inside your budget. Holding off for a couple of weeks is a good idea anyway.
