First gaming desktop build - Any advice very, very much appreciated! : )

Hi guys! Hope you're all having a nice evening.

So I'll post up some of the main things I'm looking for here for my first ever desktop PC build. I've read through the forums and done a bit of general reading so hopefully I've covered the basics, but apologies if I've missed anything important! I've included an example spec of the sort of thing I'm looking for (I think) in the required format below; I haven't finalised anything at all yet though and I'd really, really appreciate some advice and feedback if there's anything at all you guys might like to comment on!

As a rough guide for what I'm looking for, basically I'm looking for a snappy, reliable gaming PC that can handle new games on high graphics settings, and also something I can do work on (some programming, word docs, etc., but no super intense video editing or anything like that). I don't really plan on doing any streaming in the near future, but it would be nice to have that option if possible (but no biggie if not).

My budget max is around 1800-1900ish EUR (1500-1600ish GBP) for the desktop itself, not including the monitor or anything else.

I'm investing in a 1440p 144Hz 27" monitor separately to go with it, and from reading the forums and having talked to some people it seems like the GeForce 3060 Ti would be the appropriate GPU to go with it? I'm not planning on getting any monitor bigger than 27" at any stage, and think I'll be happy with 1440p over 4K.

As for the CPU, from reading the forums it seems I should be probably be going for AMD over Intel? The AMD Ryzen 5600X was one of the ones suggested to me. As for RAM, I was suggested to go for 16-32 DDR4 RAM. I'd like to go up to 32 if possible, but I'm just not entirely sure if it's worth it?

For the mainboard a friend suggested the MSI B550 Tomahawk. I don't know much about these, and in the specs below it included one with ARGB. I'm not really interested in lighting features on anything on the PC or case at all, so I'd like to opt for the plainer and more understated aesthetic.

I put 850 W PSU just because I saw on another post that 850 W might be good if I ever wanted to add future upgrades.

Hopefully the cooling I've selected is OK as well? I don't know too much about this, or about whether I should overclock the CPU or not (I saw that was an option somewhere on the site).

A couple of extra questions as well if anyone is free to answer - is there anything on the site I would have to click to have the PC bluetooth enabled? + is a second graphics card worth it? +do you think I have enough USB slots? + do you think the 1TB NVMe SSD is worth it?

Thanks soooo much guys for the help if you have any opinion on any of these points, here's the example spec. I did on the site (not finalised):

Apologies also if the detail I included is a bit excessive! If there's even 1 bit of feedback you might have on any of those points that would be so helpful! :):)❤️

Case: NZXT case has poor airflow so will cook your components. The TD500 is a little pricier but has much better airflow and will house everything nicely.
Motherboard: The Asus board is a higher quality then the Gigabyte option and will suit the 5600x better.
Storage: Would definitely recommend an m.2 SSD for Windows and games storage as you will have fast boot times and games will load faster. The Intel has better write endurance than the Corsair drive so will last longer for the same price and speed.
Cooler: For purely gaming the stock cooler will probably do you fine, but with the potential of streaming in the future the Coolermaster gives you a little more cooling power to deal with sustained streaming sessions.
Wireless Card: The AX200 comes with Bluetooth which you mentioned that you wanted.
Anti-Virus: Bullguard has been known to cause issues and Windows Defender comes included and does its job well so you can comfortably ditch Bullguard.
Warranty: Silver Warranty for a fiver is well worth it.

Monitor: Would you like any advice? There are lots of Black Friday deals on monitors atm so it’s a great time to buy. A 3060ti pairs excellently with a 1440p 144hz display.

Hope this all makes sense! 🙂

Oh my gosh thank you sooo much for your help!!! Yes that all sounds so great

Yeah for sure! Would love some advice on monitors, was planning on picking up one for the Black Friday deals but not 100% sure which one to get exactly, I was suggested to go for an IPS panel monitor though for the extra colour quality?

yep definitely would go for the 1440p 144hz, and again thanks soo much!!

Hi guys! Thanks soo much for your replies yesterday, it was a huge help! I'm planning on putting the order in tomorrow, but I just have a couple of extra questions if that's OK!

- I think I'd like to opt for the 32GB RAM, so should I be going for the 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 16GB), as opposed to the (4 x 8GB) option?

- Just to double check as well, will I be able to connect an ethernet cable to this PC?

- On the system summary screen it says that the GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti is on pre-order only; I know about the big GPU shortage at the moment, but I was just wondering will that put a big delay on my order or do PCS have some in stock (sorry if that is a silly question, I don't know a huge amount about the shortages and I'm a bit of a newbie)

- And lastly just to be doubly sure about the plug type for the PSU, we use the same type G plug with 3 pins in Ireland as in the UK, does 'Kettle Lead' change anything about it or is it just a normal plug basically? (Sorry I just want to be sure 😅)

Looking through the thread, I don't think you'll especially need 32GB and with RAM being an easy upgrade it might be easier to save the money and upgrade if needed. That said, if you're sure on 32GB, I'd indeed go for 2x16GB as it'll give you the option to upgrade past that if you ever need the extra RAM

- Just to double check as well, will I be able to connect an ethernet cable to this PC?
Yup! There will be a port on the back of the motherboard

It's difficult to know really. Obviously we don't have an answer as we aren't PCS but this thread should give a good guide of current wait times as it's full of other 3060TI customers.

If you use the 3 pin plug, the kettle lead will work. Assuming you're buying from the .ie site, it'll automatically have the right lead specced on the configurator

Hi guys, just one last question if anyone is free!!

I have Windows 11 selected there, but I'm wondering might it be better to opt for Windows 10 for the moment and then upgrade later (assuming the Windows 11 free upgrade will still be available)? Or do you think it would be better to to go for Windows 11? I've seen in a few places that some people are sticking with 10 for now until some of the bugs in 11 are sorted. What do you think?

Thanks a million! 😃

Yes go with 10 for now, just to be safe, then upgrade once early adopters like myself have suffered all the early hassles
