First Gaming PC

Hi this is my first gaming PC and pc in general that I am buying. I've been using my hp laptop for roughly 10 years but it just isn't doing what I need. I'll be using the pc for games such as Minecraft, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Little Nightmares and other games like Stardew Valley and Among Us etc. My budget is £1000 but I dont mind going just slightly above as I have done.

This build is £1121 and my components having RGB is a preference of mine I'd like to keep. Just looking for a general rate my build for what I've got a quote for currently, TIA.

Forgot to mention and can't figure how to edit text but I'll be needing to use Adobe software for college and I am wanting to stream games on Twitch in the future.

Hi there! I'll be honest, realistically, you probably won't get anything that's worth buying for £1,000 right now. Covid, working from home and the crypto mining boom have got prices jacked way up. I reckon if we're clever about it we should be able to get a system for about £1,100-£1,200 if you're comfortable with spending that. A question first, what make and model or resolution and refresh rate monitor do you have/ plan to buy? Also, with your current laptop, would you be happy to/ feel confident in transfering the license from the Laptop to the new PC? Windows licenses are expensive and being able to do that would save a lot of cash.

Personally I think your best would be to leave it for now, save some more money & wait for prices to drop, as you arent going to get much of a system for your budget

Hiya, thanks for the reply. I know prices are really bad right now for what you are getting but it's at a point where it is something I am needed to buy and I have some money from my college Covid help fund that's paying for a PC for those of us who need it for coursework (I am on a Photography Course thus the need for Adobe). This is the monitor I am looking at getting as I am currently just using a Smart Tv hooked up to my laptop which I don't think will be best for long term.

As for the windows license I just had a look into it and seen by transferring that I will lose access to it on my laptop is that correct? If so I'd rather not do that as I will be using my laptop for basic things still or for when I am on the go as it isn't completely busted but it just can't handle what I am looking for anymore.

Thanks

I wrote a bit more in my other reply but it's become a need for me at this point for my coursework and not being able to play the games with my friends anymore has gotten in the way.

This is the minimum I'd be comfortable recommending. Going from your build, for the case, the NZXT doesn't have great airflow, so I've swapped it for the Lian Li that will have better airflow, and RGB 😂 For gaming you'll want to go for the TUF board it has better VRM's meaning it'll handle a more powerful CPU if you wish to upgrade down the line among other benefits. For RAM, I've gone with the standard set, RGB is finishing touches and I would save the money to spend elsewhere, if you'd like RGB, I'd add an ARGB LED strip for about £10. For that monitor a 1660 Super will be perfectly fine and saves a little. For storage, I've swapped your HDD for an SSD giving you significantly faster boot times for Windows and loading times for games. I'd also look into adding a HDD at some point as 1TB isn't all that much storage these days. For some reason PCS is saying it'll be £60 for a 1TB which is crazy, I'm sure you could keep an eye on the prices and ammend accordingly. I believe a 1TB is normally £45 and a 2TB is £54? Although don't quote me. For PSU, it's worth investing now so you're able to upgrade down the road without a worry, the RM850 should be a good, high quality PSU with lots of overhead. An uprated cooler isn't necessary for the 3600 and we tend to not recommend the PCS coolers anyway, the quality is a bit hit and miss. If you need wifi the AX200 card is a no brainer. I've removed the anti-virus as it's been known to cause issues and the Silver warranty is well worth the £5.

For monitor, I'd encourage you to have a look at the AOC 24G2U and MSI Optix G241. They're slightly more expensive than the one you're looking at (about £30-50) but are 144hz instead of 75hz and come with LED panels instead of LCD. They are very popular options here on the forum.
