First time AMD Build

The 5950x is not a gaming CPU and will reduce performance.

You need to decide what you're using this for, you mention Docker, what are the requirements for that?
Okay so assuming the rest of the spec is somewhat okay, what CPU would you recommend that is still very good for gaming too?

It basically replicates the infrastructure my company has via Kubernetes on my local machine and allows multiple microservices to work locally. Some are utilising really beefy third party libraries that suck up RAM and like quite a few cores to run smoothly without me waiting an age for any processing to happen.

Typically right now on my current Linux machine I allocated it 32 of my 64GB of RAM and Docker will hit around the 28/29GB mark for all of the services to run.
And what core / thread requirements?

Id measure the actual space, with a tape measure, so you know exactly what depth you can fit.
also wouldnt take taht CPU is meant for stuff like number crunching computational science not games
I did just that earlier on, 475.2(if we're being super accurate lol) that I could go in depth

Threads I am not sure, currently it is allocated 6 cores
5950x is probably worthwhile then with the understanding you'll lose some gaming performance but at 1440p that's less of a concern anyway as the load will be more GPU based for most titles.

If the 5900x is slightly cheaper and still has 12 cores, would that still be a good choice?

I was watching... so i trimmed your build for you: you were on better lines, but i tweeked the RAM, sorted the arctic thermal paste and played with your storage.

So this is a noob question but is the "normal" thermal paste good enough for keeping the CPU happy?

I would suggest something different with a 1440p 144Hz monitor in mind, if you're not going to be upgrading your monitor until much later down the line, drop the GPU to a 3060 which will be ample for 1080p, and then upgrade the GPU when you upgrade the monitor as you'll get more power for less money.

With corsair coolers, yes. They come with a high grade paste already, its not always the case with different brands though.
Scraping it off to repaste with teh same quality wont gain you anything, but can increase the chances of a bad paste job.

The preapplied stuff is done mechanically and doesnt tend to have the same issues as manual repasting

Oh okay, thats very interesting as I had no idea, thanks!

One last question lol Is there much of a difference between the ROG X570-F and the Crosshair VIII Hero? Other than the obvious of built in WIFI?

with a 5950X youd want the hero to properly support the cpu
5900x youd be good on the strix

BTW, it was Spydertracks who explained about VRM's and CPU and motherboard choices to me... so if you are comparing the two builds, takes Spyders, he knows this stuff inside out i'm more of a parrot lol
