Any reason why you chose the ryzen 5 over the ryzen7?
Two reasons the Ryzen 5600X is perfectly adept at high end gaming and it's cheaper than the Ryzen 5800X

Unless you're heavy into flight simulator or 3X strategy the 5600X is the gaming CPU to go for. This would be my 5800X build though

Okay thank you for the help I think I'll be going with your Ryzen 5600X Build.

If i played with the spec steveg suggested, and dropped the added RGB elements as you never actually mention it, just had thrown some on your original spec (least from what I could see re-reading it).

I think this would get the most out of your money (although the AIO cooler is overkill, but its quieter than the coolermaster one and looks prettier) So i went performance rather than RGB, and the RGB in there is adding to function still....rather than a twinkly lightstrip... (no offence to those who like twinkly lightstrips). I think the ML fans on the corsair cooler would also help balance against the slightly worse airflow performance the 5000X has against the 5000D model.

Do you think I should upgrade the motherboard or is that solid enough?

The TUF B550 is the correct pairing for the 5600X. I'd only recommend X570 if you were to go 5800X or need a 2nd Gen 4 M.2
What would you say is a good price for a good motherboard? Because I googled the b550 and it was like 100 so i wasn't sure what the average price is for a good motherboard

It's a how long is a piece of string question. it depends what chipset you need, what features you want, what form factor it is, who it's made by. I don't know what a 'good' price is for a B550 is as I don't look at individual component prices very often. But for your spec, the STRIX board is pointless and Gigabyte don't have a B550 option. The TUF B550 is the right option for your spec.

150 for a B550 and 200 for an X570 are what you should be targeting in most builds. I have used a £75 B550 before and it was fine, just didn’t support USB 3.0 for the case. Then on the other end of the spectrum, someone may look at a Gigabyte Auros Master or Crosshair Hero Dark and spend £750 on that.

But for what is available here, what @JUNI0R is saying is right - budget builds get the B550 and ones that can afford it, get the X570. If you want a 3070 with a £1700 budget... B550. If you want a 3070 and a £3000 budget... depending on the builds balance etc... X570 (maybe even the strix, as it has a few very minor advantages over the TUF).

So if I was to upgrade later on would I have to change my entire build if I wanted to get a better mother board?
Changing the motherboard is quite arduous as it is essentially the hub for your build. The CPU, GPU, RAM and m.2 drives are all connected directly with your motherboard, which makes swapping it out harder.

Looking at upgrading later on, you’ve got a really solid build here which will comfortably last you for a few years. DDR5 is on the near horizon, and it is likely that Ryzen 6000 CPUs and beyond will be on the DDR5 platform, so if you were to upgrade the CPU a few years down the line it might be that you need a new motherboard anyway.

TL;DR the TUF B550 is fine. 🙂

Couldn't have said it better myself!
