Fixed major BSOD issues.

Hi all,

Recently ordered a PC from PC Specialist, from the moment I got it I was getting constant BSOD with all different error codes which were;

APC index mismatch
Kernal auto boost lock acqisition
DPC watchdog violation
Attempted execute of non execute memory
IRQL driver not less or equal
Bad pool cooler
Kmode exception not handled
Kernal security check failure
Page fault in non paged area
System thread exception not handled
and a couple more..

Anyway, after pulling my hair out I contacted PC Specialist who suspected it may be an issue with the RAM. (the fella was really helpful on the phone).

Every error I tried to look for resolutions for always said about updating drivers. I checked for Windows updates and driver updates on device manager and they both said up to date.

I decided to try to quickly hop and download the driver tools from AMD and Geforce.

AMD Drivers and Support for Radeon, Radeon Pro, FirePro, APU, CPU, Ryzen, desktops, laptops
Official GeForce Drivers | NVIDIA

I managed to download both and install before I crashed again and once they were updated all the errors stopped and everything worked. I needed updates for both but without checking manually I would of never known.

Just posting this as know this will definitely help someone out there!

Luke.

Thanks for this. :)

Did you buy a copy of Windows with it or did you install your own copy? I rather suspect it was the latter because PCS generally install all necessary drivers if you buy a Windows license with the PC. You should be complaining if they did not.

Windows Update installs all the common drivers but we always recommend installing the latest graphics card driver direct from the card vendor's website, these change so regularly that the latest version doesn't always make it into the Windows Update libraries.

All other (third party) drivers and control software will need to be sourced from the relevant vendor - in your case with an AMD build(?) you needed to install the AMD specific drivers. People with a laptop build installing their own copy of Windows also need to look for the appropriate control software to manage keyboard LEDs, power options and the like.

For all builds, all drivers and control software current when your build was produced can be sourced from your account on the main PCS website. Login there, click on the Tech Support menu item and then Downloads. Note that these drivers should be considered 'last resort' drivers because they may well have been superseded since you took delivery, always check the appropriate vendor's website first.

If some people reading this are not as familiar with hunting down third party drivers and control software as @LukeyG clearly is, then it might be worth paying that bit extra for a Windows license in order to have PCS install everything you need. :)
