Future Memory Upgrade

While my new mini PC is working fine on 8GB of memory, I was wondering what the best way to do this.

Before when I've done this to computers I've been told to balance the existing memory, using as close a spec card as possible.

I presume this would need another 8GB card the same spec as the one already installed, or else get a 16GB card and remove the 8GB as both wouldn't be compatible with each other.

I've seen at least one computer with 12GB of memory, which I presume was a 4 & 8GB card, so some computers don't need to be balanced.

The BSOD Doctor
The new RAM needs to be compatible with the motherboard you're plugging in to.

If you're using dual channel (which you will be if you install another 8GB stick) then the new RAM stick must be a matched pair - ie. identical in all respects.

You could add another 4GB of RAM and it would work (as long as it's fully compatible) but it wouldn't operate in dual channel mode.

If you use the PCS upgrade service to get your extra 8GB you'll be sure of getting matched RAM.

OK thanks for letting me know, I've not looked at the upgrades yet, but I bought this computer on the grounds it had scope for future proofing with up to 32GBs of memory.
