Gaming Beast advice needed

I need a laptop. I play Minecraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, X-Plane, etc. and I do Fusion 360 and vid editing. Is this spec good enough? I plan on using an external SSD for main storage. Is the extra good thermal paste worth it?

With a laptop i would take the arctic extreme, you want every bit of added cooling solutions you can get and the standard paste is ok, but arctic is a high quality one.
Its different with desktops where you have a selection of coolers with their own pastes etc.

You said you are after a gaming laptop (gaming beast as you put it), which types of games are you looking at?
32GB RAM would normally be complete overkill, 16GB is plenty unless you are looking at a few niche games.

Max budget? Theres not as much configuration options with a laptop as a desktop, but is there a maximum budget here? Also, if another laptop were possibly better for your aims having a idea of budget helps look at what options there are.

Dead Pixel, personally i would go for the full year, I think its worth it. Dead pixels are incredibly annoying and from my experience, its not one of those things that always happen early if it is going to happen, a year is a good cover period (if they did longer i would of taken it on both laptops that i have previous had)

Thank you for replying!
I will switch to arctic paste is the next config I do, thanks.
My parents have a pretty good desktop (it, 24gb ram and 8gb vram) and Fusion 360 struggles on it a little. And some games I get FPS drops (not super GPU-heavy games though). So I think the 32GB is worth it.
Max budget is about 1700-1800 euro (not sure in pounds, sorry). I want a 15.6 inch one so it as portable as possible (I know it's still quite big though)
I'll get the 1 year dead pixel, wasn't sure about that, now I got it clarified.

If you need any more info, happy to tell you

Fusion 360 is a professional CAD program? Something like CAD or high end photoshop will need 32GB really...but not for gaming.
A gaming setup and a professional CAD/Video editing/Photo editing setup would be quite different (and not just the RAM).

What is it you are actually going to use it for? because if its gaming, 16GB is more than enough in 99% of cases.
Your budget is also about £1600 (1800 Euro) so you are going to need to manage your expectations here... you can get a good gaming rig, or a good CAD/Design rig....but to get one that will do both is going to go well above your budget ceiling.

For me, waiting to be shot down, I would swap out the Intel SSD for a PCS one if money is tight. I know you said you have an external SSD but...
In a Laptop you want to put the best GPU as possible. Like @sibun1 says, 16gb is more than enough to play the games, it will be the GPU that normally needs the extra grunt. Honest it's not worth the extra outlay, unless you deffo need the extra memory for that Fusion wotsit

Your budget is going to limit what you can do here, and given its a laptop, the main priority (as Grumpy says) is the GPU.
Laptop GPU's are pretty much fixed... generally you cant upgrade them to a newer model, so the GPU needs to be as high spec as you can in order to get as much lifespan out of the laptop before it starts becoming a limiting factor on what it will run.

If you want CAD, the CPU and RAM are then the focus, and you want the most powerful processor and extra RAM you can put in.
You do not have the budget to do both.

Youve said you want gaming, so wasting money on 32GB RAM is pretty much pointless.
Grumpy also gives a good suggestion to go with PCS M.2 rather than the Intel (and the Intel one is known to have issues anyway...if you cant afford the samsung, PCS is your next best option and also significantly cheaper)

I would also have a proper dig to see if you have a Win 10 licence you can use, do you have an old laptop or pc that is being scrapped that you can transfer it from? it would really help you out here and put another £100 that you can put into the GPU choice.

Meh. I'd save the money for the paste. I don't trust pcs laptop paste jobs. Sporadic but consistent reports of rushed paste jobs. Pocket the money, buy your own for not much more and repast it yourself when you get it. Then you know it's done well.

This assumes that he has the knowledge and ability to do it.
It is not something i would suggest anyone did without knowing how given if you break something the warranty will not cover it.

I have taken apart one laptop in my life and that was to get its parts. I am a very technical person though so i probably could figure it out

I probably don't

Can I change out the RAM in 2 or 3 years without taking apart the whole laptop?

Yes. Normally there are four slots, past experience with clevo tells me theres two from the bottom and then two under the keyboard, PCS normally use the two on the bottom first so you can easily get to these by removing the bottom access panel.

In regards to the possible source of Win 10...just be careful, many activation codes that you can get through "alternative" methods will work for a while...then when microsoft catch up with it it will get blocked.

My partner has one on his computer, off ebay for a few quid...works fine atm...but its just a matter of time...

Just want to stress, it’s against forum rules to discuss any kind of pirating or torrenting.
I wasnt aware its specifically barred... but to point out, Im on the side of it not being a good idea, one way or another Microsoft will catch up and will shut it down.

Personally I think this is bad advice.

The number of problem reports we get on here that turn out to be down to a poor paste job is tiny compared to the number of builds PCS do.

This is just scaremongering IMO.

Maybe. But you also don't know how many have been sent out with mediocre paste jobs which aren't ever detected. It's not hard to paste properly. It's not like someone could do it wrong once by mistake without noticing. If you know how do it, you do it the same way every time and it takes no time at all.

There have been bad paste jobs reported consistently for years. Not a lot. But a few. Consistently. To the point where finding out how to do it yourself takes no time and the goods cost peanuts.

What I tokk isue with was your assertion that PCS paste jobs are bad and you should always do your own. That's just not good advice.

Some of them are bad. That's a fact, not an assertion. My one was bad too from years ago. And I never said you should always do it yourself.

Doing your own paste job is bad advice? If you say so.
