Gaming build request

Hello folks,

I would like to ask for your assistance with brainstorming a desktop PC build that would suit my needs. Please let me know if my details are too vague, but I'm going to try to answer what I've noticed were common questions in other threads where people asked for help.

The PC would primarily be used for light gaming in the evenings, with a few games that I'd like to enjoy regularly:
World of Warcraft (Classic versions and retail)
Battlefield V
Fallout 76
(Potentially other online shooters and MMOs)

The CPU would preferably be AMD, as I'm getting the impression that they're delivering better products than Intel, judging purely by market reactions.

The monitor I'd like to use (I do not currently own one) would be a 1440p 144+Hz one, between 27" and 32". As much as I'd love to go for 4k, I understand that it would require a pretty expensive and probably out-of-budget GPU to run games with high FPS on high settings in 4k.
Running high settings with high FPS is somewhat of a priority for me (and it's something I've never experienced cause my previous PCs were always crap :p), so I'm ready to sacrifice a bit of image quality.
For example, is this any good: https://www.buyitdirect.ie/p/aoc-cq32g2se-32-qhd-165hz-1ms-freesync-gaming-monitor-cq32g2sebk ?
Suggestions for other screens are welcome.

A thing that I'd love to incorporate in the build is a sound card for some extra immersion or "edge" in online shooters. Again, something I've no previous experience of using, but was recommended by someone into competitive FPS games. Is it worth it?

My budget is around €2100 without the monitor. Potentially I could flex it for 10% or so, but only if it would bring significant improvement in specs.

TL;DR:
AMD build
1440p monitor 27"+
High FPS on games a few years old, mostly online shooters
Sound card desired
Budget ~€2100 or slightly more (monitor not in budget)

Thanks to everyone for taking time to assist me and please let me know if my expectations are not realistic. Have a good one!

This is definitely possible. Let's go through it in order. For the monitor, I'd suggest you probably want 27", rather than 32", because the pixel density is greater so the images appear sharper. At 32", 1440p is a little blurry. Looking at that website (I've no idea where you should buy monitors in Ireland!) I'd suggest the AOC Q27G2SU at around €300, as it's a decent IPS panel.

AMD and Intel are pretty neck-and-neck for most things. Intel maybe just about have the performance edge, but not by a significant margin. AMD's 5800X3D, however, probably is the single best gaming CPU, so it's definitely a good call. And AMD's platform in general is superior to Intel's. (Also, while Intel will definitely have another CPU generation on their current platform, there are rumours that AMD might too, which would be very exciting...)

You don't need a sound card. Internal sound cards are not significantly different (sometimes not even slightly different) to motherboard onboard sound these days. If you find the onboard sound isn't good enough for you, get either a good USB headset (as they don't use your PC's sound system anyway) or an external DAC/interface.

I'll post a suggested build in a separate post.

Glad to hear this is possible! Think I'll stick to a 27" monitor then, but I'll definitely go see what they look like in a shop first... Cheers

Great! Looks good to me... Thanks for taking the time to put it together... Now, one more question... What would changing from 8GB 3060Ti to 8GB 3070Ti bring me performance wise?

A bit. Maybe 20% more frames per second. I'm not sure it's value for money, to be honest, but I'm not sure what the price difference is right now.

Well, if you snoop around the web a bit, you are able to find a 3070Ti for about the same price PC Specialist charges for 3060Ti... Was just an idea... :p

Yep, GPU prices are finally falling which is great to see. There might well be cheaper options elsewhere. What is great about PCS is that they have an open box policy: you are able to open up your PC and swap out components without affecting your warranty. The GPU is one of the easiest components to swap out, so if you are comfortable doing it it’s definitely an option.
Just remember, as you’re buying the GPU from a vendor other than PCS it won’t be covered under PCS warranty if anything goes wrong with it 🙂
