Gaming laptop advice

Looking for advice on whether the spec below will give good performance for gaming, and if there is anything I should change?

I moving on from a PC bought in 2013 (AMD FX-6300 sic core CPU; 1 8GB RAM; 2GB Geforce GT 760; 1 TB hard drive (not SSD). I don't have space for a tower set up now and never upgraded parts on the old PC anyway. Hard to work out how PCs and laptops compare pound for pound here, but will I see massively improved performance and will the spec below hold its own for 3/4 years?

The obvious compromises between a laptop and desktop are that because of heat and much reduced cooling, the GPU's are a lower clock speed and the CPU's are lower power.

I believe that the Optimus, however, uses desktop components and to compensate for that they are much thicker and heavier to allow for better airflow.

The hardware experts here will advise better than I can.

Ah yes, sorry - budget is c.£1,300 and would be mostly used for RPGs and strategy games, with some modding (installing and using not creating). Probably no online gaming.

i had similar uses gaming-wise, and the 2060 is about the best one can hope for at £1300. definitely enough power to last 3-4 years to me, i got 55 fps on rdr2 at high settings and i can only assume future rpg titles will be as heavy for a couple years (RDR2 has almost zero optimisation for PC and demands wayy too much power). medium settings 1080p toward the end i guess will be required to maintain a 40+ fps, the bare minimum i would consider playable.
edit: the biggest quesiton is: will you use an external screen. if this is a yes, i have no idea whether tthe 2060 is good enough and you should toss my advice out the window

if you can stretch your budget by 11% you get at least 15-20% more gpu power, i dont know what an underclocked 3600compares to the intel mobile chips.
check this out, its much heavier than the optimus and WAYY less battery life (and much, much fatter) but is better value for money:-
