Hi all.

The following is for gaming I wont lie. The kind of games I mainly play are strategy ones like Anno 1800, civ 6, EU 4 etc etc.
Please advice, My old desktop is a 17-700 4.2gh that is starting to struggle with Anno 1800 in particular.

I have had to reduce budget to no more than 1700.

what's your thoughts on this please? I have desktop i7 7700 and GeForce 1080 , would the following be superior? as mentioned my gaming tastes are strategy stuff , not fps or hard 3d games.

I am moving and cant take my desktop. I want almost like for like, i am not expecting a huge leap just portability and slightly better performance. Also is 32 gigs a waste? I have read that programs don't really utilise it? I play mainly strategy stuff.

32gb RAM for gaming is a waste, yes.

A 4k panel is arguably not worth it for such a small screen. Perhaps a better option would be the Vortex's 1080p screen that has gsync. Especially if your games have some performance issues because of what they are, the gsync could help as much as a hardware upgrade.

looks good. one thing though and this will sound stupid. I have 4k monitor that I might plug it into now and then , would either spec be able to run games at 4k? also , is a 2070 better than a 1080? different sites have different opinions. Could it for example handle some vr? like my current 1080 can?

Some games, depending on the settings. Maybe not Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra when it comes out.

Probably Civ 6 at high settings. And I imagine EU4(!). Anno 1800 might be a bit too demanding for maxed out settings at 4k and decent framerate.

It has DP and HDMI so 2 monitors should be fine. It also has TB 3, though not entirely sure what that supports monitors wise...
