Hi everyone,

Im wondering if the set up i have chosen is good enough for what im wanting it for,

it will mainly be used for gaming on games like men of war assault squad 2 and total war games like shogun 2 and rome 2, if anyone has an idea or experience with what kind of settings and fps i should get i would appreciate it if you could tell me, the only other things it will be used for is browsing the web and im currently learning myself programming although i believe you dont need a strong machine to do programming, also im wondering if the dvd drive i have chosen will be able to write dvds.

I would consider dropping the i7 to an i5 as the i7 is unnecessary for gaming. You could then use that money left over to add a 120gb SSD as the boot drive. In my opinion an SSD in a portable gaming rig really is a necessity. Keeping in mind that a CPU upgrade is more difficult than adding an SSD, you could of course still go the other route and add an SSD later and keep the i7 although ,as I said before, the i7 isn't needed for gaming.

This machine as it is will still beast through your games just fine :)

The mobile i5 is a dual core CPU, the i7-4710mq will be more appropriate considering the games the OP posted. Depending on your budget I would try to push for the gtx 880m.

I am now considering getting the gtx 880m but is the i7 4710mq a good enough processor for it as I can't go any higher, I'm also a tad bit worried that the gtx 880m will over heat alot more and make more noise and I won't be getting a cooling pad till a later date so I'm wondering if it will be ok with out one, it will only be used on a table though I will never use it on my lap for gaming, it might get used on lap while I'm browsing the web unless they overheat while browsing web on your lap?

The CPU will be fine.i would still recommend a cooling pad, for the meantime try to elevate the back of the laptop
