Gaming P.C. Recommendation Needed (Budget £3000)

Dear Friends,

I am in need of a new gaming P.C. & monitor and have around £3000 to spend. I'll be using it to play games such as Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 preferably on the highest settings possible within my budget.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Carl

Well, it depends how you want to divide up your budget. You could spend £120 on a 22" 1080p 60Hz display and play on the highest conceivable settings, but it wouldn't be a great experience. I would think you would be better off spending more on the monitor and adjusting your expectations around the PC.

Sadly, £3k isn't "no compromises" territory. You can't have the best CPU, the best graphics card and the best monitor all in that budget. You can get close, but you can't have everything.

I'd be inclined to look at spending between £500 and £800 on the display. That could be a display like the Gigabyte M34WQ (ultrawide 1440p/UWQHD) for £495. Alternatively, you could go all-out and get the Alienware AW3423DWF for around £800. This is probably the best gaming display there is today, certainly for a "reasonable" budget.

Then a PC to go with either of those displays might look like this:

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE Solid, albeit unexciting, case
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) The best gaming CPU there is
Motherboard

ASUS® TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI (DDR5, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s)
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
20GB AMD RADEON™ RX 7900 XT - HDMI, DP - DX® 12 Probably the best value of the high-end cards right now. The XTX version would be the "splurge" option. NB if you do content creation or use VR, an Nvidia option is a better choice.
1st M.2 SSD Drive

512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) Boot drive
1st M.2 SSD Drive

2TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 3325MB/sW) Games drive
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ - MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET More than is technically "needed", but good to be on the safe side with power supply, and you can be sure of having the capacity for any future upgrades
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB High Performance CPU Cooler Again, more than the 7800X3D needs, but really good and solid

Just to say, the above with the alienware would smash a 4k system IMHO, especially looking at games like starfield where its less about high frames and more about immersion.

Just be aware, I'm sure you've probably heard, bit starfield is crazy hungry and to maintain decent graphics, you're never going to get good framrates, but it really isn't that kind of game.

Thank you for the quick replies and it's a system I'll certainly look into. In terms of VR it's something I may do and if that's the case which Nvidia card do you recommend?.

Thanks.

The best one you can afford. VR will use all the graphics power you can throw at it. That's likely to be the 4070 Ti or 4080; both, sadly, are worse value for "normal" gaming than the AMD cards.
