Hello Forum.

I am wanting to build a gaming pc for around 1000 POUNDS. I am not that cultured in the domain of computers, but In more detail i am looking to build a PC that is capable of running the standard game on high graphics whilst also streaming (whether that be me watching a multi stream or myself streaming) where i will not be penalised in FPS. I mostly play World of Warcraft and my current (old) laptop struggles to play the game on fair settings and when in the heat of a boos fight with 25 other people casting spells, my FPS can go down to 17!!!!!

I do not know what can put a compromise on but i would like to have a stylish case and have a peace of mind in relation to cooling (as my room will not be well aired). If possible, i would like to have an Intel Core and a Nvidia graphics card. I also need to consider in my budget accessories (keyboard, mouse, headset) which will give me 'the edge' when playing MMMORPGS.

My budget goes from 1000 - 1200max. Here is a quote which i have planned out so i seek your guidance on..... basically everything!

Thank you in advance for your help and feel free to ask me for more details.

If you are going to play games on the PC and stream to twitch or similar or just record gameplay for future upload to youtube etc I would consider getting the i7 4790, the extra cores you get from hyper-threading will minimise the effect the streaming will have on your gameplay. An alternative would be to use the Shadowplay feature of the NVidia top-end cards although this is still quite buggy for certain games and has limited options regarding scenes etc. I think Keynes build above is fine if you can afford to add in the i7 4790 I'd say go for that, if you have a hard budget ceiling and still want the benefits of the i7 you could reduce the GPU to the GTX 770 which is still more than capable for the games you mentioned. MMORPG's are notoriously CPU dependent, especially during those boss fights.

This is about the same price as Keynes build, by dropping to the GTX770 you can afford the i7 and fit in an SSD for your OS and main programs/games to make everything feel more responsive.

Saying all that though, the stream quality is normally limited by your upload speed. If you're looking to stream in 720p at 30fps the i5 should be fine, any higher and you should consider the i7. :)

I'd go with what Keynes suggested. If you do want your fancy peripherals you could drop gpu to gtx770 which I doubt would make much difference to wow (but you could check benchmarks online)

Thank you all for your replies, i have a few questions in regards to various elements of the proposed specs:

Cadwah mentioned that MMORPG's are more reliant on CPU than graphics card. So a smoother and stable MMORPG experience (busy cities, 25man Boss fights with countless animations) in regards to FPS can be obtained through a better Motherboard and Processor?

Firstly, since my room will be a little sudent room with a window which can barely open, i need to have peace of mind in regards to the cooling system that will be in place. won't opting for a quieter fan (like Keynes proposed) instead of an upgraded standard fan (the one i proposed) compromise on the cooling efficency of my Computer?

Secondly, if we use Watchdog as an example, can the Nvidia 770 run the game smoothly on high graphics or will i need to get the 780 (basically, is the 770 enough for games to be release in the next few months/semesters/years)?

It is also essential for me to have a good keyboard, mouse and headset and the CM Storm Devastator Keyboard and Mouse (£29) proposed by Keynes seems cheap.

Finally the case chosen Keynes is 20POUNDS more expensive than the one i picked. any specific reason why i should pick the bigger case?

I await your reply

1-at stock clock speed either CPU cooler should offer similar performance, no need to get something better than the triple copper. Overclocking the CPU is not going to bring significant benefits for gaming
2-it should but I would try to get the best GPU within your budget
3-better case offers better cooling. I wouldn't spend too much on a keyboard/mouse if it means compromising on other components like the case or GPU.

It is also essential for me to have a good keyboard, mouse and headset and the CM Storm Devastator Keyboard and Mouse (£29) proposed by Keynes seems cheap.
Define good :)

The performance in busy areas such as you mentioned is normally less dependent on the GPU(Although the GPU needs to be good enough to display what is going on) It's the CPU that does all the calculations as to what is going on and how each player is interacting etc.

An extreme example would be an RTS game like Starcraft 2.
In the early game where there are fewer units on the map the CPU can easily calculate what is going on and the GPU can easily display what is going on.
In the late game where you could have 2 maxed out armies (Or in multiplayer more than that) the GPU can still easily display what is happening but even the best CPU's have trouble calculating the interactions taking place which can lag the game. Meaning that as long as your GPU is half decent it is normally always the CPU which will throttle your FPS.

The motherboard will have very little to no effect on the performance.

the keyboard has to be comfortable with major wrist support and keys which can light up at night
the mouse has to be big (i have a big hand), with numerous keybinding buttons but at the same time not heavy.

i have a question in regards to sound, it relies on both the soundcard AND the support which broadcasts it (i.e: speakers) right? So are standard soundcards and monitors good enough to watch films, listen to music? i'm not a music producer or a video editior i just enjoy music and video and i dont want the sound to be flat. a standard Television monitor (like a big 40inch + panasonic or sony) provides good sound, but how is the sound comming from a smaller, cheaper monitor?

thank you for your help Keynes.

Do remember keyboards and mice can be very different for different people, what I find comfortable may wildly differ from what you find comfortable, or what Keynes finds comfortable.

Thank you for your replies.

Thanks to Cadwah's response. am i aware of the importance of the Processor. but I have question in regards to Graphics cards.

There is 50POUNDS difference between the 2G 770 Nvidia and the 4G 770 Nvidia but then we have 100POUNDS difference between the 4G 770 Nvidia and the 3G 780 Nvidia. i know that the the 3G 780 Nvidia is more recent but why would you choose it if you can get more power through the 770 card which is cheaper?

thank you for your help.

Just because a graphics card has more VRAM does not mean it is more powerful, the 780 is more powerful than the 770 no matter if you choose the 4GB version or not - it is the model number which determines the powerfulness of the card
More VRAM is useful when using very high resolutions (like multiple monitors), but doesn't make a lesser card (the 770) with more VRAM more powerful that a higher end card (the 780)

Gtx880m has 8gb VRAM, worse than a 760 with 2gb. Why do you NEED a good mouse, keyboard and headset? They are all perfectly ergonomic and they have 3 buttons..... What more do you realistically need? As for wrist support... Why? You can take a break....

By that logic you could by an r7 250 and that would be as powerful as a gtx 770

Wrist supports are very important for some people, personally if I don't have a wrist support it's bad for me, and although at the time when using the keyboard it doesn't seem to make it feel too bad, after 6 months my doc is telling me I can't work for a week cos I get something similar to RSI in my one of my hands, at which point all is not well, so please don't advise people not to get wrist supports if they need them.

Yeah, I guess, but in all honesty I wouldn't say everyone needs one. If he came and said something like what you've just said Rakk, I'd have no problem with it.
