Gaming PC

I have had a look around at the other threads that pertain to similar price ranges, and wanted to just chuck out my requirements to see what people recommend.

I am looking for a gaming PC that will last the next 2-4 years. I will be looking to buy around December time (currently am out of the country and wont be back until then) so I was wondering what type of spec I would be looking at now, and what developments are coming up in the computing world between now and December that I should be keeping an eye out for?

I want something that I can upgrade relatively easily.

I am looking to spend as little as possible, and wold optimally pay around 700-800 pounds. I could be convinced to stretch all the way out to £1000, so if someone could give me a comparison to what the £1000 machine would give me compared to the £800 one, that would be appreciated.

EDIT: Will need an OS, will not need peripherals.

The types of games I currently would like to be able to play would range around Skyrim, ArmA2, MW etc, so if that helps with requirements in any way take that as needed.

Thanks for your help!

Nalwoir.

Maybe something like this, you could probably get it a bit cheaper with AMD but I don't really know much about AMD stuff to be totally honest. If you get a 3GB AMD RADEON™ HD7950 it comes to exactly £1000 :) But, as I said, it might be cheaper to go with AMD if you want to get closer to the £800 mark. I'm not sure what will be out before next Dec, the Nvidia graphics cards have just been released so I'm guessing new ones won't be for a year or so, AMD might have some new releases next Autumn? (someone more knowledgeable fill me in here? :p)

To be honest a lot can happen in 6 months, prices for current stuff will definitely drop in that time (probably by quite a bit).
Any £800 spec made now may not even be available in 6 months and even if it is, it certainly will not be 800quid still.

So I wouldn't really start worrying about specs til closer to the time, though keep reading the forums and you'll pick up various useful bits of information for when you do actually put your spec together :)

I'm in the same situation I will likely buy my new PC in December but have been looking at specs for a few months now. As Rakk said tech changes really fast and the spec I configured in March is a lot different from the one I'd get now, so I wouldn't worry about that too much till you get closer to the date, but keep yourself updated by checking PCS and other forums online so you have a pretty good idea of what you need when you finally get your PC. :)
