I'm looking to buy a gaming pc and my budget would be somewhere between £600-£800. But the thing is I have no idea what I should be getting. What would you recommend as a good gaming pc build under my budget and what sort of games would it be able to handle + at what settings/FPS. Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the reply. I have read online that there are issues when using the GTX 970, is that a big issue. Also if I was to increase my budget to £900-950, what would you recommend and would it make much more a difference to what you previously suggested?

Thanks. One last thing, because its the game i'm most excited for, will either of those builds be able to handle Fallout 4 when it is released?

Keynes build is spot on, 970 is much better than AMD card. Also the SSD wont improve fps game performance, its just great to have if you have the money to speed load times. I am sure either would handle Fallout 4 well. I too am looking forwards to that one myself...

What sort of issues have you read on the gtx 970? For gaming I wouldn't downgrade the gpu. An ssd is not essential especially on a budget but for £950 you should be able to get the 970 + SSD.

The issues that I read about the GTX 970 were the problems with the slower 0.5 GB of Video ram so when games use the last 0.5gig of video memory, it significantly lowers the fps. Just what I read online, could be completely wrong for all I know.

Whilst I personally favour Nvidia, you could upgrade to the 390x. Also you could upgrade your PSU to the CS650, with both of these amendments taking the total to the £950 mark

Is the r9 380 is better than the gtx 970? Not all games benefit from loading times from an ssd, got them on both ssd and caviar black and I can't notice the difference.

Don't you think the priority of a gaming PC is the Gpu? It is more like a fact rather than a personal preference, loading times is not going to improve dramatically for games and it is mostly a gaming PC the best gpu within a budget should be encouraged.

A 960 is a good gpu but for a gaming PC I would not compromise the gpu and get an ssd which won't improve gaming performance and the loading times, just for gaming, is not significant. Whether is an r9 380 or something else I would go with the best gpu within his budget as the priority is gaming.

What if (and a big if at the moment as I'm still trying to work out a budget) if my budget was increased to Around £1,100. Would getting the 970 and an sss be worth the extra budget or would you recommend something completely different?

I don't think SSD's are quite the norm yet, and OP's rig is based around gaming, so the GPU is the main focus. I would recommend the 980 if OP can go just over the £950 mark. I used to own the 970 and I did experience a few issues because of the slower 0.5GB VRAM, so if you can push your budget a little more, the 980 is the way to go.

For £1100 I would recommend probably a gtx 980 or an amd equivalent with an i5.

I think this post has turned into a forum of people's preferences, and is probably confusing a little.

Simplest advice is to stick with what Keynes originally suggested, and if you can stretch your budget go for a 980/980ti and pick up an SSD if there's any change left.
