Gone and broken my vinyl cartridge!

I've gone and broken the cantilever on my rather beautiful cartridge! I'm absolutely gutted. It's completely my own fault for being too heavy handed, can't even blame it to bad luck.

So now without music.

I do have a spare entry level cartridge which will do in the meantime, but I'm not skilled enough nor do I have the tools or the know how to fit it.

Have called out to my local dealer to see if they can help out at all, but with lockdown, I'm not sure what level of service they're able to offer at the moment.

I'm absolutely gutted, that cartridge was a work of genius and shall be sorely missed!

Lesson learnt!

Nooooooo! Gutted, that is a devastating thing to happen. I think that job takes a very particular set of skills to set right properly.

No... Liam... it’s a completely different skill set.

It's such a fiddly job and you need loads of really specialist miniature fiddly tools.

I'm not even sure Bryan Mills would have the skills for it!

It's one of those jobs you need to be like a mad Jepetto in his workshop to achieve

Well, thank god for my local dealer, they really are an absolute lifesaver.

I emailed them late last night begging for advice, they emailed me about 9am just saying bring it in.

I had a spare Ortofon 2M Blue Moving Magnet cartridge which I can use in the stop gap before replacing my old cartridge.

Ortofon being quite a premium company actually offer 25% off replacements of damaged cartridges, even if it's accidental damage by the user. So I've got a few other commitments I need to take care of before I can get a replacement but it does bring quite a magnificent cartridge into fairly humble outlays which I'm extremely grateful for!

In the meantime though, the dealers fitted my spare cartridge and I've just tested it and it's sounding as good as can be, so I'm satisfied for now. Dropped it round to them this morning and went for a walk while they replaced the cartridge.

So long as I can listen to records in the stop gap, I really don't mind, thankfully had a pretty decent cartridge which came with the turntable which I'd barely used.

Saving graces! Gawd bless analogue for all it's impracticalities and excesses!

Glad it is sorted. As someone who has music on almost 24/7 I can appreciate what a loss that was.

A decent analogue system is a current thought but it involves some drastic re-arrangement of the house. Luckily Blu Ray quality is far better than CD and I have a lot of my classical stuff on that.
