GPU Advice: GTX 770 2gb v Radeon 7950 3gb v Radeon 7790 3gb

Hi Everyone,

Just laying the finishing touches regarding the system I plan on ordering next week. The final decision I need to make is regarding the GPU, and I need to decide between the GTX 770 2gb, the 7950 3gb and the 7790 3gb. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the best card to go for? The various bits and pieces I have read up on suggest the 7950 is only worth it if overclocked. Price is not too much of an issue at this point really and they all fall within my budget, although the 7950 is significantly cheaper. My only concern with the 7950 is that it will start to struggle with high-end gaming sooner than the others. Finally, is there any point in getting a 4gb card? The GTX 770 4gb falls within my budget as well.

Any advice or help is much appreciated.

The additional vram will only be beneficial if you are planning to game at high resolutions/more than 1 monitor. The best gpu you listed is the GTX 770, go for it :)

what kinda games are you playing? what spec have you got so far?

how many screens are you intending to run? one or two screens you only need 2gb of vram with the GPU.

personally, I'd probably go for a 770.

Everything I haven't been able to play for a while. I am currently playing everything on an ageing gaming laptop - which enables me to do a fair bit. But I don't think Rome TW II will be able to run on it, so the time has come to upgrade. None of the more graphics intensive games are able to run on it that well.

It will be single monitor as well.

Here are the remaining specs:

Can you get a 650w PSU with the case you selected? I would also suggest a caviar black as the secondary drive.

i'd suggest getting a tower case instead of a smaller cude style case... For cooling reasons, but also with the cube cases you are limited to older motherboard and cpu's. What budget do you have?

oh, and dont get the H40. - the fan is very noisy.

also, i'd suggest a corsair 650w psu as opposed to the basic one.

Yeah I can, although PCS said it was overkill and it would be unnecessary, which is why I changed it in the first place. But happy to put in a 650. I can just about squeeze in a Caviar Black - is it truly worth it?

Unfortunately the mini case is a bit of a must. Space, mobility and something unobtrusive in a tiny living room are all requirements - and that's the one my wife chose, it was the compromise we settled on. I realise that it complicates things in the long run, but I am happy to swallow those and deal with it. Which is one of the reasons why I decided to go for the H40, as it's the only additional cooling offered for the mini case.
