No they said that they had sent it back to mend it and it would take 25 30 days to come back and that was over a month ago and today they sent me a text saying it has been despatched and on the report it says they have changed it to 5830!

Hello,
When a gpu is end of life (no longer manufactured) we send it away to the manufacturer. If they can repair it they will. If they cannot repair it but can replace it like for like (i.e with another 4870x2) they will. If they cannot repair or replace like for like, because the card is no longer made, then they will replace it with a new card, of the same or better value at the current time.
So in essecne you have used your 4870x2 for a year. It has failed and has a rough value of £100-£120. It has been replaced with a brand new, modern hd 5830, with a value of £170.
If you wish you can return the hd 5830 and i will arrange for a refurbished 4870x2 to be sent to you. But i know what I believe to be the better value.

this is fine but i would have liked to be told so i could of had refund and had you replace with a modern 2 gig graphics card and i would have paid the difference. i did tell them this but i was told i would be informed when the got it back from manfutuers before they sent it back to me!!

We can sort this out if you wish. When you get the pc back give us a call and we can arrange a swap out if you wish to upgrade your new gpu.

thanks that would make me a lot happier as i have phoned and e-mailed five or six times in a month and i was told that the would contact me before sending this computer back !

ok. As a point of interest, dont put too much store in the size of gpu memory. The speed of the graphics card processor is what mainly determines how good it is.

Yeah, I've seen way to many people saying "check me and my new 1gb graphics card out!" only to be dissapointed when its a low end GPU and are confused as to why its failing to run Crysis :p

Especially as the lower end ATIs tend to just use GDDR3 still, and not GDDR5 lol.
