Graphics Cards

hey their i was wondering if someone could help me.

im looking at getting an overclocked desktop but im stuck on the graphics card choice, im looking at having one 2gb ati 5970, but i was wondering if their was a combination of two graphics cards in either crossfire or sli set up that would give me either matched or better perfomance for either the same price or cheaper.

if i were to go ATI it would be matched up with these components-
Overclocked AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (3.20GHz @ Max 3.80GHz)
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula: DDR3, USB 3.0, Sata 6Gb/s, R.O Gamers
8GB Kingston Hyper-X Genesis Duel-DDR3 1600MHz (4 x 2GB Kit)

and if i were to go for NVidia it would be matched up with these components-
Overclocked AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (3.20GHz @ Max 3.80GHz)
ASUS M4N98TD Evo: DDR3, 2-way SLI, Sata 3Gb/s
8GB Kingston Hyper-X Genesis Duel-DDR3 1600MHz (4 x 2GB Kit)

any help would be much appreciated :)

Im not 100% sure but Gorman said that the 5970 has like 2x 5830 or 5850? or 5770? See? I have no clue about ATI :( anyway just wait for him to confirm, but, I think, 2x thoe cards would work out more?

2xGTX470's in SLI or 2xRadeon 5850's in Crossfire would provide similiar performance levels and cost slightly less.

Thanks for the reply guys :).

I think i'll go for the two 5850's as they work out only £15 more expensive than the SLI configuration and gives me access to the 6Gb/s Hard drives of which i have selected :)

so as they stand the two specs look like this-

Or you could wait for the 6xxx cards. I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a 6870 which will be stronger than either the 470 or 5850 (probably by a decent margin) and should also cost less or as much. I heard that their coming out very soon (heard rumours of it happening within a week or two).

Thanks for the reply's again guys :) you have all been very helpful :).

So just the clarify the Nvidia option will be better option despite having a lower spec motherboard ? I'm looking at buying in about 4 weeks when I have the money and I take it their is nothing coming out that anyone knows of within that time frame that beat these two set ups for the same sort of price ?

Pretty much and no, not unless AMD unleashes some of it's new graphics cards super early (which is highly unlikely).
