Morning all,

Can someone give me some advice. I am looking to buy a laptop for gaming. I am a casual gamer, i DO NOT need to play games on the highest detail. As long as it looks and runs ok i am fine with that.

So my question...will the GTX 675 laptop graphics card achieve this?

I will also be going for:

i7 Quad Core 3630QM 2.4
8GB DDR3
120 SSD Drive

Thanks in advance
Jimmy

I dont have any personal experience of the 675 but it appears to be a pretty good card.

Head over to here http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-675M.70785.0.html and check out the various benchmarks for the card and see if it ticks the right boxes for you.

The rest of your spec looks fine. Will you be getting a secondary HDD or do you already have an external you will be using? I only ask because that 120GB will fill up mega fast!

Yeah i will be getting another 750GB drive for storing Photos and videos etc.

I just wanna make sure i make the right choice with graphics card.

I don't fancy the 7970m even with the 12.11 driver released the other day. There just seems to be to many issues with it still. And i don't like paying an extra £200+ for the 680m when i don't require games to be run on the highest detail.

I will check out your URL now for benchmarks.

thanks

I know what you mean with the 7970, its got so much potential, especially at the price its at but AMD just dont inspire confidence at the moment due to the length inbetween driver releases. I actually went for the 680 myself, dont regret it one iota. You wont go far wrong with the 675 though, Dishonered at 90fps on ultra thats pretty amazing!

If you go with PCS I'd factor the Silver warranty and dead pixel garauntee into your budget. Both worth it in my opinion.

Good luck! :)

I have a 660m GTX and I can run most games on max/very high settings @1080p so you will be more than happy with the 675.
One point to think of is that the new kepler versions of the 675m GTX will be arriving around Christmas, if you can wait it should be an significant improvement on both performance and efficiency.

Is this really the case? I was about to order a laptop with the 7970 but now I have seen this, perhaps I should downgrade to the 675 and save a bit of money.

Has anybody got first-hand experience with the 7970 and can verify kruppsy's quotation above?

Cheers

The 7970 has had a lot of issues. They released a new driver beta a couple of days ago, 12.11. Various people saying the driver has improved things. But there are still problems.

I spoke to the pc specialist sales person and asked they what drivers come with 7970m and they told me its Clevo's own drivers not AMD. I then asked would it be a good idea to install the latest 12.11 driver from AMD and they replied 'no'

I have not ordered a machine yet but that put me off the 7970.

Maybe somone that has bought a 7970 could comment?
