GTX470 Temps

Hi guys,

I started up Speedfan today while playing FFXIV and chatting on FB as it was sounding like it was really working hard, along with my other fans too and the ss below is what it came up with. :S
Are those temps ok? Seem a bit high to me.

Ack bloody thing. SS is fine but it uploaded it small for some reason. Stupid photobucket. Can't upload direct to here for some reason.

GPU 81
Temp1 50
Temp2 35
Temp3 -128 -WTF?!
Core 57

Not sure how much I trust these readings though! Have just downloaded CPUIDs Hardware Monitor and will have a look at that soon instead.

looks like a bad sensor to me. im pretty sure its not running at -128 unless your pouring LNH over it. 81 is hot, but its not gonna kill the card.

Lol no definitely not running at -128. And not sure where I'd store LNH other than my empty beer can and I can't see that going well.
Would have thought 81 is very hot, will have to google the limits of it.
CPUID is showing more reasonable zero load temps. About 41 min. Will run FFXIV again in a minute and see what happens.

I don't think I got my gtx470 to run any hotter than 75°C :p what case have you got and what sort of cooling does you have??

I got the same case, but If you want to lower the temps you could just add an intake fan on the side panel an exhaust fan on the top, both of those should be 140mm, this shouldn't cost more than £20

To be honest.... I actually wouldn't know how to do that lol I can take parts out and stick ones in when its all nice and simple, and you can't really go wrong with GPUs and RAM etc but adding stuff in that there isn't an existing slot for then connecting it up to the correct part of the mobo or PSU? :S Hmm. Knowing my luck it'll all go terribly wrong! lol

All you need is a screwdriver, there are existing holes for the fans, and connecting the power cables either to the 3 pin connectors on the motherboard or the by using the 3 to 4 pin adapters connecting these to the psu. It is really simple. You can just watch a video on youtube or something, and it is actually also easy to remove the top of the case so you could fix the fan there easily just type in on youtube or even google ''taking the top off the cm690 2 case'' and there you go.

To be honest, its a rather simple job, and you cant go that wrong.

However your welcome to bring your rig over with a few fans and ill show you how to do it :D

Thanks fella, appreciated :)

Although if I was to do I probably would just look on youtube for advice rather than drag it cross-county XD lol Or pop down my local computer shop.

Think I may have to look into getting a couple of new fans for it. CPUID is reporting 81 degrees too under load. Although you say it can cope with that no problem, and I don't doubt it can, I'd rather have it as low as possible.

Understandable, and also a good way to look at the heat.

best of luck, let us know if you need any advice.

Did you say it should be a 140 on the side and the top?
It already has a 140 on the top, comes with it.

Could put two 140s on the side, looks like there is room.
What would you suggest as a filter?

Well... yes... I know that >.< Thats why I asked what you would suggest for a filter and where I could find a decent one that won't impeed air flow too much but still keep dust out.
