Half life or Half life: Source?

I have not played any half life yet, and I have been told it is a very good game. Just a few questions, should I get HL or HL:S.
I would assume it would be better to get HL:S since its a newer engine... Your thoughts?

I'd go for source, since it has better effects, especially water, textures, and better ragdoll physics and an overall better experience

The only reason people get the original is to play the mods like cs 1.5, more for a nostalgia trip then anything

Just to keep facts correct, CS was released retail in 2000 (before 1.5) and was only a mod for a year.. just saying

I would say Half Life source, I purchased half life when it was first released all those years ago in a pre steam age, and I'm still waiting for Half Life 2 ep 3 / HL3!
