The software matters - if you buy something that benefits from GPU acceleration but you don't buy a GPU or spec a config that will support one, that would be bad. Or if you buy a GPU but your software doesn't really leverage it, that's a waste of cash. Also the software affects CPU choice, and GPU choice.

In general terms, you're spending a lot on an expensive CPU that might not really be best value for your specific uses anyway.
The motherboard's something of nothing, neither high end nor as cheap as the bargain basement options
only 8gb RAM, in single channel
no GPU
Slow SSD
Buying an optane module for an SSD is pretty pointless. Buying an Optane module at all is generally seen as a bit pointless when there are other things to spend the money on.

Your build looked like it was £875, or that's what the link said, so I take it you don't really want to spend £1200. Therefore maybe this as a starting point:

Potentially up the CPU to an R7 3700x, and the GPU to a 1660 ti, taking it to £1215.

But it all depends on the software you'll use. But it depends on the software and what you're doing with it.

Thanks you for your advice I should have spoken to you before I ordered. I have 2 computers with Intal i7 core chips and when one wrong I though I would buy a computer with a later chip and use my graphic card I have to upgrade. While awaiting for the delivery of this one I have stripped and repaired the broken computer I have lots of spares and enjoy trying to better what I have

What's your current GPU?

Also i7 doesn't really mean much these days. An R5 3600 is not far off an i7 8700k for a lot of things.

You could use that in a new system but depending on the software you are going to use you'd benefit from an upgrade.

I suggest you cancel your order and get some advice about ordering something decent. The spec you posted isn't very good.

It's not too late to cancel. Even if you already received it there's a period where you can cancel and return for a refund.

You really should cancel the order and start again from scratch. I'd suggest with an AMD Ryzen 3000 build as above.

An i5 for video editing is not all that good... but with the AMD options available, neither is an i7....
