Headset Jack not working

Have had my new PC for 3 months or so and everything was great until I tried to use the 3.5mm headset jack. If I fully inset the headset connector it doesn’t work at all . If I half insert it I can hear some sound but it crackles and disconnects every so often. I’ve tested with 3 or 4 different headsets and all the same.

it’s quite a minor thing but obv needs fixed. before I join the queue for telephone support is there any DIY repair I could carry out?

It is a desktop - specs below.

The jacks at the back where i can plug into the green and pinkish connectors works fine but when i use them i cant obv also use my speakers at the same time that i like to do when flight simming. It is just the single jack connection on the front top of the case that doesn't work.

Sorry it might be user error on my part. I've just noticed that when i plug my headset into the front jack a message pops up saying "what device have you plugged in?". If i answer "headphone" another message pops up saying "what input device have you just plugged in?". If i answer the default suggestion microphone i hear nothing unless i mess about with the connector - ie unplug it half way. If however i answer "headphone" again to the second question the sound comes out the headphones perfectly but my microphone doesn't work. This might be a stupid question but does the single jack at the front only allow me to use either the headphone or microphone but not both?

It’s a bit odd. It has a single Jack but also came with a connector to turn it into a dual connector . I’ve posted a photo below.

So if I bought one of those splitters I could plug the dual connectors into that at the same time as having my speakers connected from the back?

The headset was quite cheap tbh. Would a USB a headset be Simpler?

oops- dont think the photo attached as was too large This is what i mean

Very much so.

For PC headsets you really need to be looking at a USB one IMHO, they're far better.

The splitter would be for PC connectivity. The single connector will be for mobile or console use.

How does it work on a case with only a single input like the Lancool? Surely both parts of the headset should work no?
Yes, you're right, apologies, that case does particularly specify it has a 4 pole audio / mic jack.

Hopefully that's becoming more the standard, but a lot of cases have never bothered adopting it as most PC headsets are USB or wireless.

Update. Phoned tech support who confirmed the jack is TRRS? compliant which means should be able to get input and output however the motherboard in my build doesnt support that functionality. Ordered a USB headset which will hopefully see me sorted. Thanks for the help - appreciated.

Thanks for the update. A cheaper option probably would have been to get a TRS to TRSS adapter but not sure if that would work. Frankly, they shouldn't be allowing motherboard and case combinations that break features of the case...or at least give a warning to say" some features will not be usable"
I don’t know of any motherboards that support it?

That’s why you never buy a jack audio headset for a PC, only for laptops.
