Hello again!

Well I just ordered a new PC from pcspecialist so I thought I'd better start posting on the forums again after a long break of about... a year and a half. I'll put the specs of the one I ordered in my sig if anybody cares. I have stalked the forums from time to time but I stopped posting mostly because I stopped buying new games. I bought this PC (the old one in my sig) a few years ago in anticipation of Skyrim, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Battlefield 3 and just kind of wasted its potential after that. Played BF3 for a few months, played Skyrim on and off ever since (heavily modded) but got a bit disillusioned with modern games being all about graphics and not about gameplay. So I spent a thousand pounds on that old PC in my sig and basically used it to play Planescape: Torment, Baldurs Gate and other assorted old games I adore but which could be played on a 1980's wrist watch... because that's just how I roll.

ALAS! I am determined not to do the same thing again! I am determined to make the absolute most of this new PC when it comes! I'm gonna... you know... buy new games and... play them... at max graphics! ... and stuff. Maybe I'll just install Planescape and Baldurs Gate just to look at the icons on my desktop... BUT I WON'T PLAY THEM I SWEAR!

So... since I haven't been keeping up with new releases and whatnot, what with me being disillusioned with the state of the gaming industry for a while, what new and/or upcoming games look good? What's everybody looking forward to? What I want to take away from this thread is one modern game which I shall buy and play on my new PC when it comes, to test the PC and to enjoy awesome shiny graphics. Do not suggest any games which are clones of the previous games in that series yet somehow cause mass hysteria and sell like delicious hot cakes. You know which ones I'm talking about! Battlefield: Ghosts and CoD 72! I got no time for them fools. Also don't suggest Rome 2 because I've been a fan of the Total War series for over a decade - Rome 1 was the game which made me buy my first ever proper gaming PC - and a part of me died when I played Rome 2, so I got no time for them fools either.

That is a nice spec :) if gaming in 1 monitor you could get the 2gb version of your gpu.

The reason I picked the 4GB one is because with the new consoles coming out soon, over the next year or so the video RAM requirements of games will finally rise, so I thought the 4GB version would play games at good graphics settings over the long term, so I won't have to upgrade it as soon as a 2GB version. I might be wrong though lol.

I definitely could've saved a tenner by picking the (motherboard) ASUS Z87M-Plus instead of the ASUS Z87-A. If the "research" (30 seconds of googling) I did was correct, the ASUS Z87-A is designed for use with the processors that have a "k" at the end, for example i5 4670k, which are processors for overclocking. But I don't overclock, so with the processor I picked I should've gone with the ASUS Z87M-Plus, that would've saved a tenner.

I might call them and see if I can change it first thing on Monday. I doubt they'll start building the PC until Monday anyway, I only ordered it at about 4pm Saturday.

Hi Dayve, i was pretty much the same. I didnt really post before as i was a PS3 gamer, but with these new consoles coming out i decided i would become a pc gamer.

After i got my new rig recently (self-built - would have bought from PCS if i could afford it at the time) i started playing games like Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs, Batman Arkham City and am currently on Far Cry 3 and am waiting on Assassins Creed 4 to come out at the end of this week.
All those aforementioned games are absolutely stunning and you'll be able to play them at max 1080p 60+fps. Also those games (apart from AC4 cos its new) you can get at amazing prices. Watch Dogs and Arkham were both a fiver (or less) and if you go to the humble bundle right now you can get it plus Arkham Assylum, The FEAR games and others for a few pounds - a deal you cant beat anywhere else.

Thanks for recommending that bundle, I didn't know. I'll buy that before it goes off-sale. Still looking for something brand new though to test my PC out when it comes. Not CoD or BF4 - I've played BF3 and I don't see that 4 is different enough to warrant the 40 quid price tag and I haven't played a CoD game since CoD 2 all those years ago - the action is too fast paced for me, I like a little strategy in my FPS games.

In that case I would recommend Far Cry 3. After the first half hour the game opens up to open world. You can play all guns blazing or stealth. Go hunting for animal skins to expand your inventory and gun/ammo capacity. Take out enemy bases any way you want or follow the story line and progress through the game as per normal, the choice is yours. Graphics would really show off your new rig as well.

if your willing to buy a full price game you could have a look at Assassins Creed 4. Another open world game, this time with ship to ship combat, another huge map and lots to do as well.

NOTE - I just realised I said Watch Dogs - that game isn't out yet. Meant to say Sleeping Dogs!

Already tried Far Cry 3, thought it sucked compared to Far Cry 2. :(

Ach, personal preference i suppose. I have freinds that say the opposite about FC2 and 3. Personally i never really played 1 or 2 only played 3 and think its great :)

Ohh and i guess you know that Balders Gate 2 HD Edition has just been released on Steam?
