Hi, I recently bought a gaming laptop but it just doesn’t seem to quite cut it. So I want to buy a desktop. I main purpose is gaming. I have an Xbox series x so I would like something to match or be better than that. I already have a monitor. It’s an acer nitro VG270U 144hz. And my budget will be around £1400. Any help would be appreciated thanks

For an equal PC to an XBox series X you'd be looking over £2500 I'm afraid, the new consoles hit very high in terms of raw performance.

Prices are the highest they've ever been due to worldwide shortages for various reasons including Covid, as such £1400 currently would just about get you an entry level gaming system.

Thank you for the input. What would be the best build I could get if I was wasn’t bothered about matching the Xbox performance for my price range. I would ideally want to be playing warzone in or over 100fps. Just I have my heart set on a desktop. So lowering performance wouldn’t be a problem

That screen is 1440p 75Hz, so you wouldn't be able to achieve 144Hz even if your budget reached. £1400 unfortunately won't get you in the door at 1440p.

A 3060 would be solid at 1440p? Not at 100FPS but it would be solid at 60.
You'd have to lower settings, warzone is extremely hungry.

If you reduced to high settings you'd just about maintain 75Hz

But I'm not certain you could get a 3060 in budget anyway.

@SpyderTracks as you know laptops are my thing but would this not be suitable for 1440p? https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Warzone-Pro/
Same with that system.

I mean you can achieve any level of performance you want if you're willing to reduce settings.

I'd rather choose a custom build with substantially stronger platform so I could upgrade the GPU down the line. I wouldn't sacrifice the platform for the sake of reaching frames, it shoots you in the foot in the long term.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't be expecting a build which is strongly geared towards future proofing for that budget but this seems like a solid build for the price.

Yeah, agreed, it's only the GPU that would need upgrading after a year or so. It's making the best of the budget.

Thank you for the response. I wasn’t aware the monitor was only 75hz I’m looking to get a Optix G273QF 27 inch, Quad HD monitor. Will that be suffice? Sorry I’m not very tech savvy

To be honest mate the monitor you have will be fine untill you come to upgrade the 3060. That 3060 will be doing between 60 and 70 fps on warzone.
