Help for new desktop- upgrading from Laptop

Hello all, returning customer looking for a new PC build, moving up from my previous PCS laptop build.

It's been over a decade since I've owned a proper tower PC, but I think I won't be moving around as much for work going forward, so would like to start looking for something that's a bit more 'rooted'. Though having said that, moving is still a possibility so am also wondering if a Small-Form PC might be a viable option- I don't see any Intel 12th gen cores on offer for this, but am happy to go for a AMD core alternative. Would appreciate pros/cons if anyone has any.

Budget is around £1,500, though am flexible if there's some recommended pieces for longevity. I'm also happy to wait for a few more months, considering the chip shortages, though not sure if that'll get better in time before inflation pumps prices up again...

I plan to use this rig for gaming, programming (R, Python), infrequent poster designing in photoshop/illustrator, and some 3D printing in the future. I don't play any FPS games, mostly grand strategy (Total War, Battletech), simulation-heavy games (Rimworld, Oxygen Not Included), and a few RPGs (Would single-player Minecraft count? I saw Monster Hunter: Rise could be bundled with the Intel core, and wouldn't mind giving that a try...).

Currently I'm using a hand-me-down Asus VE247H monitor that I believe runs at 1080p, 75Hz. Am open to upgrading, though am happy with my current setup, and not sure if I'd benefit- pearls before swine and all that...

Hope the above is enough information for context. Below is what I've put together with my outdated knowledge and browsing on these forums. Ignore the Ireland delivery- I'm based in the UK, but for whatever reason the order page wouldn't give me this summary screen unless I selected a different country.

No one is going to recommend small form factor mate, they have all the negatives of a laptop but none of the positives

They are terrible for thermals and upgradability is fairly non existent. I just don't like them, I'd either say get a laptop if you need to be mobile or go full tower and find space. Small form is just the worst of both worlds

Anyways this would be my build in that budget range mate and for those purposes. Any questions fire away

EDIT: Just seen only the Intel 660p drives are available? That's disappointing the 670p is such a good drive and the 660p is so garbage.

Thanks for your response Steveyg, yes was wondering what's the point of small form factor other than middling portability. As my current PCS laptop is doing quite well there's not much point I see.

Would you be able to tell me a bit more about the differences between cases? Is it mostly just a question of airflow?

Think my only other question is regarding power supply requirements, and mostly for curiosity... The configuration page gives me a notification saying I'll only need about 250W of power- would future components really need so much power to require the unit that you suggest?

And I don't suppose you'd have any suggestions for monitors?

Hello again PCSpecialist forums! Am back again after 2 months (hopefully necro-ing my old thread is ok...). Getting close to buying this PC now, and just wanted to run through the build again just to check I'm not missing anything else/made any mistakes.

Budget for the PC is still the same as before, around £1,500 with flexibility. My use case still hasn't changed- mostly strategy gaming (no first-person shooters, few open-world RPGs), but sprinkled with programming work, high-res photoshop and potentially 3D printing/modelling. Am looking to pair the PC with a main 1440p monitor (probably a HP x27q or equivalent), and my current 1080p Asus VE247.

Many thanks for thoughts and help in advance

Case
LIAN LI LANCOOL 215 GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i5 10-Core Processor i5-12600K (3.7GHz) 20MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING B660-PLUS WIFI D4: ATX, LGA1700, USB 3.2, SATA 6GBs - ARGB Ready *I decided to go for the 'lesser' motherboard since the previous post, as I don't think I'll be able to take advantage of all the Z690 can offer, e.g. overclocking, but not certain about this.
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
8GB AMD RADEON™ RX 6600 XT - HDMI, DP - DX® 12 *Am considering going second-hand for the GPU, either the same model or the 6700 XT, after recent price drops and events in the world. I know the forums can't discuss products outside of PCSpecialist, but I'd like to know if there's anywhere I can get info on the maximum GPU card size my selected configuration can fit? The case I chose doesn't seem to say anything...
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2500MB/sW)
1st Storage Drive
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 256MB CACHE *Would prefer to have one HDD somewhere, as I sometimes have large files from work that I need to analyse.
Power Supply

Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
PCS FrostFlow 200 Series High Performance CPU Cooler *I've read that the Intel core I'm looking at can get very hot, not sure if this is the best choice of cooler? Am not clear on how much more maintenance the other water-cooling options will need, and the cooler Steveyg recommended isn't on offer anymore...

Thanks for the advice @JustARandomPerson! I was thinking 'flexible' in terms of up to £250, so your config is about the limit. I was thinking about maybe buying new RAM down the line, just not right now... Same with a second SSD to be honest, but will consider buying one from the get-go.

Thanks as well for the cooler suggestion- the last time I looked at PCs was over a decade ago, and water-cooling systems back then just seemed like too much of a faff. Glad to hear these all-in-one systems have simplified things significantly.
