Help me with my first gaming PC

The i7 8700k (which is under the Z370 configurator) would offer more gaming performance for a lower price.

What's your budget for the whole system, including the monitor? (assuming you don't already have a main monitor to use).

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not fixing myself to a solid budget, if for an extra £100 its gonna get me much better performance or last me longer, then thats fine. But guess don't really want to be going more then £2,500

The 8700k CPU would offer better performance for less £:

Probably the best 'value' option would be the Ultima X01 off the review section for £1479 + a 1440p 144hz gsync monitor for £500-600. The Ultima is about £1700's worth of hardware for a fixed, discounted price. See: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/238/

It has a very similar spec to the above but with the 8700k. The fact that the CPU is less expensive to begin with and that the system then has over £200 discount on top of that means you could buy it, and a vastly better monitor, and still be over £100 better off versus the spec above.

which would pair well with either a 1440p 144hz monitor or a 4k Gsync monitor.

Yes.

But it's only worth getting something like that if you also get a monitor that will do it justice i.e.a 1440p high refresh rate or 4k gsync screen.

There's no point to buying something like that to game on a 1080p screen as the extra performance is wasted.

"reasonably priced" isn't usually something you hear associated with 1440p 144hz gsync or 4k gsync monitors, since they're very high end gaming gear. But so's a £2000 gaming PC with a 1080 ti.

If you can stretch the overall budget for your system to ~£2500 as above, you can easily get one of these monitors however:
Dell S2716DG is available for £550 (27", 1440p, 144hz, gsync)
Acer Predator XB271HK ~£500 (27", 4k, IPS, gsync)
Acer Predator XB281HK ~£530 (28", 4k, TN, gsync)
Asus ROG SWIFT PG278QR ~£590 (27", 1440p, 165hz, gsync)
AOC AG271QG ~£600 (27", 1440p, 165hz, IPS, gsync)

Those are some of what count as the budget end of those monitors.

The high res/refresh rates of these would give a much better gaming experience than your original 1080p choice, not to mention gsync to smooth out the gameplay.

If that seems like too much, I'd suggest just getting the Ultima X01 and one of the 1440p 144hz monitors as a 1080 non-ti will still do well at 1440p and the system will still be under £2200.

We love you Ukraine
Dell S2716DG is available for £550 (27", 1440p, 144hz, gsync) --- tn panel

Acer Predator XB271HK ~£500 (27", 4k, IPS, gsync) ---- I'm assuming you meant the one that is style name WQHD, ZeroFrame, G-Sync, 165Hz(OC), IPS. This is the one I've been looking at but the reviews are a bit worrying, the quality control on them seems very hit and miss

Acer Predator XB281HK ~£530 (28", 4k, TN, gsync) ---tn panel

Asus ROG SWIFT PG278QR ~£590 (27", 1440p, 165hz, gsync) --- tn panel

AOC AG271QG ~£600 (27", 1440p, 165hz, IPS, gsync) ---- again reviews are all very hit and miss. There was one picture showing so much back light bleed in all 4 corners that the blank black screen being displayed was more white than black.

I'm gonna keep holding out for a good IPS, any more suggestions? The reviews for that Dell do look very good if I have to settle for a TN though. I haven't really compared many of those yet though.

I've got the Dell, it's truly fantastic (with the obvious drawbacks of TN), but even with being a TN, it's such a good panel that I forget it is so.
