Help please: Checking media present - No media present!

Hi,
I have just got a brand new PC from PC specialists. I have been using it, its been working nicely. I put it in ‘sleep’ mode when I went for a shower. Came back and it didn’t load correctly (background present, but didn’t leave me option to put pin in). So I rebooted. And now when I try to reboot it says:
Checking media present
No media present

Then changes to another screen that says:
Reboots and select proper boot device or inset Boot media in selected boot device and press any key.

Speedy help would be lovely as I have the day off.

Thanks

Speediest help would be to phone PCS and get them to guide you through, rather than exchange typed messages on the forum I think :)

The first thing I'd check is whether the drive shows up in the BIOS. Usually on starting the PC up, pressing Del repeatedly (or F2) will get you in. it often says on the splash screen.

It's possible that the orgininal Out Of Box Experience setup you did had some sort of glitch. Sadly that does happen (blame Microsoft). You could try booting the Windows install media and running Startup Repair in there. If it were mine I would do a clean reinstall of Windows to be on the safe side.

Assuming you have a seagate HDD and a WD SSD (where Windows lives) I'd probably put the SSD first in the boot order and see if that makes it start up normally without you needing to manually select the device to boot from.

Why you had this after resuming from sleep I can't say.

Thanks I will try that now. If I didn’t get a disk/usb with windows. I will need to first run in windows manager mode and make one will I?

Probably clean install o'clock then.

In your position, I'd likely delete all partitions on both drives, and disconnect the HDD when installing Windows. Though that might be an overabundance of caution.

I don’t know how to do any of that 😂. Is there any harm using windows manager method for a day? As I can allocate time tomorrow for it ?

Actually none of the apps worked with windows manager mode. Doing a hard reset (currently at 25%) its bloody slow! I hope it fixes it. Thanks

Did a full re-install worked perfectly. Then I go for a shower, computer sleeps, and the same problem again. Beyond annoyed right now. On the phone (on hold) to PCS. Not impressed thus far.

Unfortunately tech does sometimes break :(, its possible that something got slightly damaged in transit, its possible something just got knocked so isn't plugged in as securely as it should be, its possible something is just failing - unfortunately tech does sometimes just fail (my last machine there was something wrong with the GPU - sometimes it would just stop the machine from booting, but often it worked just fine - as soon as I talked to PCS they had a new GPU on its way to me)

The sleep part might be a clue. Some motherboards don't play nice with Fast Startup in Windows. Try turning that off (it's in power options > choose what the power buttons do).
