Help please on set-up

We are new to the forum. We bought our son a pc from PC Specialist for Christmas and have been unable to set it up. We didn't try it on delivery as it was for Christmas and now it has been ruined. We plugged everything in as per the instructions. We have made sure that the monitor is plugged into the graphics card and not the motherboard but it is not receiving signal. Unlike the other posts I have read, nothing is powering up on the pc. The only light that is on, is on the motherboard. There are no beeps, no fans powering up, no nothing. Obviously PC Specialist is not open - am I missing anything obvious?

If the light is on the motherboard this suggests that there is indeed power getting to the system and that the PSU switch has been turned on at the rear.

The obvious thing is to hit the power button on the case. Pretty sure you will have had that covered though

Next is that during transit things can move around internally and become disconnected. If you can take the side panel off of the PC and just ensure everything appears to be plugged in/connected properly. The obvious thing I can think of right now is the power switch being disconnected at the motherboard.

If you can take the side off and take as high a resolution picture as you can that would help. You won't be able to upload it here though, it'll need to go somewhere like Imgur.

Thanks for your reply. Yes the power switch is on at the back. We have pressed the power button on the case and nothing - I'm starting to think something must have disconnected in transit.

That's not unusual, PCs don't like being bounced around in the back of a van. Open it up and pop out the RAM and the PCIe cards and ensure they are properly seated, also check that all connectors are fully seated too.

With something as complex as a new PC it would have been wise to check that it's working as soon as you got it to avoid ruining your Christmas Day.

Yes in hindsight we should have done, but it's the first one we've ever bought. We didn't realise this was an issue and just expected it to work.

Usuly they do but with anything there are always one or two that have problems sadly.
