Help with PC spec (ANY AND ALL ADVICE APPRECIATED)

Hi,

I am looking to consolidate a number of things at the moment and to do this I am investing in a Desktop type box. I was hoping friendly people on here that no much more than I do on current PC Specs etc would be able to advise on what kind of spec I should be looking at based on my requirements. I am looking to purchase this asap.

Requirements

- Bluray media drive for 3d Bluray
- HDMI output to connect to 1080p TV
- High end PC Gaming graphics preferably that won't need upgrading for at least a few years and the system to keep up.
- Large hard disk space for film, tv and game storage (probably 2x 2TB or a 2TB and a 3TB)
- Excellent running speed
- Wireless connection and ethernet.
- Decent soundcard for movies and games.
- Any extras you guys think of.

Obviously these will impact on the type of processor (i5/i7?), RAM (8gb/16gb), graphics card (Geforce 670?), and then things like cooling, power supply, etc. I was largely considering a custom build but if there are any recommendations for off the shelf systems then I will look at them too. Was just wondering what everyone else would recommend spec wise for my needs.

Lastly cost is a factor and ideally the cheaper the better but within the £1000-£2000 range is workable.

Cheers.

For gaming an i5 is a good choice as well as 8gb memory ram. The GTX 670 is a good card, has an HDMI output and will allow you to play 3D movies (I'd suggest Corel WinDVD Pro 11).

Rubensolo thank you so much for your reply and I will definitely use the spec you provided there to set my order up in the next week or so. :) Obiviously any other things worth adding or if others have differing opinions please do leave a message. All are read and taken on board as sound advice.

I misread your post regarding your budget, if you can go higher in your budget you may want to go with the i5-3570 and the possibility to SLI (add a 2nd GTX 670) in the future to improve performance. Homeplugs will also provide a more reliable connection than a wireless card.

Do you think I would be able to get a similar spec/performance in a mini pc? or do you think full size is the way to go? obviously if I can get a similar spec in a smaller/living room friendly casing it would be beneficial to me as it would be used more often for media (films, 3d blu ray, music) than for gaming. Though I want the gaming to be up to as high a quality as possible.

I'd suggest if you want a higher end PC with gaming connotations to go for a 'full size' pc mainly to aid cooling/airflow for the higher-end components.

Although I am sure you can get a kick-ass mini-pc from PCS too.

Ok then remove gaming from the equation and we're looking at a mini pc media center essentially. Any specs/advice on one of those?
