How do I transport my PC? e.g to a new location

Hi, I'm having some problem with transporting my PC to my accommodation as I'm worried that I may damage it due to shocks and bumps.

What do you do to avoid damaging it?
Do you take your PC apart?
Should I use the same Box that came with the Case?
Do you place anything in it to help?

Any advice and help is appreciated
Thank you

If you have a large GPU I would personally take that out. That's the only part I can think of that could put too much load on the motherboard with inertia.

Other than that, pack it up in it's original box if you have it. Are you transporting it by car? Behind the passenger seat standing up pressed against the rear seats is my favoured location for transporting a tower.

I know one time I transported my PC I laid it on its side in the boot of my car, I laid it on top of an emergency coat in keep in the car and packed stuff around the PC to stop it moving, it was fine despite the potholes.

Yes by car, do you put in anything in the box to absorb the shocks or like wedge it so the PC won't move? As my box is a bit big from wear and tear, its all stretched out.

Thanks for reply

So the components inside is pretty much safe? Because I'm considering if its worth the time to take the PC apart.

There are many caveats to this sort of advice unfortunately. We cannot commit to any absolute guarantees as you could happily go out, dukes of hazard style, and then point the finger of blame at the advice given on here :ROFLMAO:

A journey by car wouldn't break an egg if done right. Your PC is far more resilient. The only thing I would take out would be a meaty GPU, do you know which one you have? As the suspension travel may put a lot of force on the PCI-e slot if upright (if flat as per Rakks method, it should be OK in place).

If you're a careful driver and keep in mind you are transporting a PC you will be fine.

It's 7700k which I think it's fine, I'm kind of more worried about the PCI slots and when im moving the PC I also have other stuff to move making space really limited so I don't think I can put it on its side but instead on upstanding position which.

The 7700k is a CPU. I think the question is what graphics card you have (e.g. Nvidia GTX 1080) But tbh it probably matters more what specific model, as not all GPUs of a given model are built the same.. some are heavier than others.

It's no real hassle to take out a GPU and put it back in. You can buy and store it in an anti static bag for transit (plus appropriate box and padding)

What CPU cooler do you have?

Should I use the same Box that came with the Case?
Is this a PC Specialist system? Are you saying you still have the original packaging?

Oops GPU Is MSI 1080 and it feels quite heavy in my opinion I always feel like the PCI slot going to give way one day. And the cooler is X62 kraken

Wrap it in your bedsheets, even sleep with it and cuddle up to it if you wish, making sure to hold on real tight so that it is protected all through the night!

Or just do what the above say, only thing that will really suffer some strain is the GPU, unless the box gets "smashed" from one side of the car to the other, strong enough as to cause a dent.
