How smart is your home?

I've had Alexa for a number of years now, various guises. A few years back I got myself a few of the plug-in smart sockets. I connected them to lamps around my home and used them for when I was away on holiday etc. Due to the convenience factor I just let them run on a timer, where they come on an hour before dusk and switch off at midnight (3am on weekdays).

One particular use I had was when I had my beer line chiller in the loft. Rather than climbing up to switch it on I purchased another one of those plugs and used alexa to then turn it on/off when I fancied a cold beer.

The other day I took a spending notion and decided to go to town a little in my new house. I ordered loads of smart light switches, smart sockets and smart extensions.

Needless to say, the amount of "smart" things I have in my house now is ridiculous. I haven't even received/installed them all yet.

Anyone else gone down this route? How far have you taken it? I'll post up a list when I get home later :D

I've got one of them Google boys and don't like it. So I'm a minus on the smart home if that's a thing?

I have a Steam Link if that counts. Lets me play some games while laying in bed if I'm home alone

I've got Alexa set up with philips hue, 2 lamps in the lounge, 3 in the hall, 1 in the bedroom, and a smart socket in the lounge that a fan plugs into during the summer, and a heater during the winter

I have a zwave hub in my house and control a few things in my brewery and bar with it. Not a great deal 'in the house' is controlled yet but slowly its creeping in :)

Let's see.....

1. Ring doorbell + Ring cam (which is installed on my patio and covers my garden)
2. Sonos Beam & Sonos One (both with Alexa enabled)
3. Loads of Philips Hue bulbs (x1 LED strip; x10 bulbs)
4. Two front lights setup with smart switch
5. Nest Thermostat
6. A few smart wall sockets

Some of my lights are setup to come on just before sunset (linked via Alexa).

My hallway lights are also linked to my Ring doorbell so after 11pm and until 6am, if the Ring doorbell detects movement, the front and hallway lights come on for 10 minutes.

My ring cam is also setup in a similar way for the living room lights to come on if movement detected.

I also have Google Home but just the App; no hardware. Although I'm tempted to install the Nest smoke/CO2 alarms.

The games room is in a complete state of disarray. I'm one of these people that just lays everything out and gets it working..... worrying about the lay out at a later date.

I was considering taking a few pics for @AgentCooper

Don't know if he could take it though :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I feel so backward.

My house is dumb as a box of frogs.

We've got one 4 year old Alexa just for music in the kitchen.

I feel all inferior!

When I move though, I intend to rig up stuff on the boiler and lighting as it will be a new build, so am gonna rig it all when it's installed.

Smart thermostat is one of the best things ever. Has some proper uses.

All the rest of the stuff is because I'm super lazy and want to actually attempt to reduce my carbon footprint. I just leave absolutely everything on standby and never turn anything off.

The routines I have setup with all my stuff means that basically everything other than my Router, Modem, PS5 & CCTV system is switched off.

I'm hoping that the power use of the smart-stuff is less than what I've had on previously (Subwoofers, etc).

Remains to be seen though :)

I asked my house what 2+2 was and it got it wrong, I don't think it's a very smart house....... Sorry, I couldn't resist :ROFLMAO:

Having just moved into a student house Siri on my Phone and a Nest mini that I'm yet to plug in is as far as it goes. Tempted to get some voice controlled RGB strips to go around the back of the TV stand in the living room, the lighting situation is terrible in there 🙃

My house is as thick as it can get. However, my cat is quite smart. I can speak to it to set directions on the satnav, play music on Spotify or phone home. Annoyingly it also tries to set up Alexa and or sometimes randomly thinks I am speaking to Amazon.
