HP Omen 27 or AOC CU34G2X

Anyone can help me decide between these 2 monitors?

HP 27 Omen or AOC CU34G2X 34 Quad

Is the curved worth it? Mainly for MMOs and Mobas, RPGs

they are both the same price but not sure if curved is a gimmick?

It will be powered by a 3070 currently waiting on order to be built/delivered

They're two completely different monitors:

The Omen is a 1440p 240Hz for competitive gaming.

The AOC is a 1440 Ultrawide for much greater immersion.

For me, I'd definitely go with the AOC, Ultrwide is a far better experience than high refresh rate (most people can't notice any difference over 120Hz).

But it all depends what GPU you're pairing it with?

3070. I'm definitely not a competitive gamer haha
Definitely the ultrawide then. It's basically 1440 on the vertical and 1.5 x 1440 on the horizontal, so you get a much wider field of view, and you'll get bigger scenes in games where they can fit extra landscape in the sides that you normally wouldn't see. It's a wonderful experience.

For an ultrawide or superwide, you really need curved, they're quite wide :)

Just to put a spanner in the works, this is a brand new 1440 Ultrawide that's the same budget (£400) and has received very high praise as being the best ultrawide at this pricepoint:

Unless you're seeing the AOC discounted, the Gigabyte is probably a better quality screen.

You can't go wrong with either though, they'll pair perfectly with the GPU and the types of games you play, you'll love ultrawide!

Still struggling to decide. The Gigabyte seems a bit cheap for a 34 ultra wide?

ive been checking the Samsung g7s but apparently it's a bit of a lottery to get a good panel. Some people suggest 27 might be too small for a curved monitor.

if anyone has any suggestions for a £450-£550 gaming monitor I'm all years.. so much choice out there!

Again, the G7 is a competitive panel 1440p, it's entirely different to an ultrawide, it's designed for competitive gamers who lower graphical settings as low as possible so it runs fast. Wouldn't recommend it for your uses.

1440p is 2560 x 1440

1440 Ultrawide is 3440 x 1440

Ultrawide will be a significant improvement for the kind of gaming you do.

It's the same price as the AOC?

I think it's £50 cheaper, I thought might be compromising on quality.

Ah I didn't notice the resolution of the Samsung, just saw it was curved as well. Guess that rules the Dell S3220DGF out as well!

34 inches on the Gigabyte this is my first rig in 10 years...can't believe how much it changed. I remember when BenQ 24in 1080p or Dell 27 1080 were top of the line!

Basically 3070 would pair much better with an ultrawide than 1440p, would give a much richer gaming experience.

Both the AOC and Gigabyte are excellent panels.

Is there anything around 550-600 you could recommend for ultra wide? Problem I had with the giga is it seems quite big at the back as well. I'm expecting some resistance from the wife on it as it will be in the living room...

Then again I appreciate that might not be possible with curved!

There's this BenQ which is only 100Hz, but makes up for it with full HDR10 support:

The rest are all over £800

What are the curved monitors like for working on Premiere Pro / Lightroom? I presume there's no distortion or they wouldn't be much cop for anything!

Trying to find a monitor that covers all bases (including gaming) is no easy task but that BenQ ticks a lot of boxes.

The BenQ is a lovely screen, and BenQ's whilst being on the budget side of cost are anything but in terms of quality, they're usually extremely capable screens.

A curve can take a bit of getting used to, sometimes causes a fisheye effect for the first few days until you adjust to it. 1500R seems quite acceptable, Samsungs go up to 1800R which is quite extreme on an ultrawide.

The issue with trying to get a gaming monitor to suit production workflows is going to be colour accuracy and weather that's important for your work. If it is, I wouldn't attempt to get a one-fits-all panel, I'd definitely consider a separate 4k 60Hz colour accurate monitor for your production stuff. You can get them at fairly reasonable costs.

I'm back unfortunately. I spoke with PCspecialists and unlikely I will get my 3070 build soon so decided to wait for payday and invest into a proper monitor.

also OCUK told me no way I'll get the gigabyte recommended above before Christmas.

i decided to invest heavily and just treat myself after a tough year.

currently trying to choose between the Samsung G9, my problem with this monitor is it's massive. I'll probably need to have my PC case on the Floor for it and with a 5 month puppy I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

my desk is 152 cm wide and 60 cm deep

the other option is the Alienware 38 which looks great as well and means I probably wouldn't have space problems.

spyder if you can help me again I'd really appreciate your thoughts on an ultra wide at the £1000+ price point

My tower will be the Coolermaster Silencio s600 so I don't think it's too big. Says it's mid size according to the spec.

Depth wise, yeah I have some bloody bookshelves my wife asked me to put up above the desk. Might have to take one of them out, not sure if she will be too happy but oh well haha

thanks for the advice, can't see anything else at the price range that's better then the g9

Thanks for the height measurement legend! I will check when I get home. I was worried about that as they look massive from the pictures.
