i7 or AMD Eight Core

Hello guys I just have one quick question, what processor is better?
i7-3770 (3.4Ghz) (8MB Cache)
AMD FX-8150 (3.6GHz) (8MB Cache)

People are telling me that the i7 is better but I just can't see how considering the AMD has 8 cores, and more processing power in each core. Could somebody clear this up for me? Thanks a lot! I am going to be purchasing a computer, but I can't decide what processor to get from these two.

I'm buying the computer mainly for gaming. I'll have a GTX 670 2GB for graphics and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. I just want to know what processor would be better. Thanks for the quick reply :)

Then i'd go with the i5-3570.

Oh, only the i5? Sorry, I'm not the best at all of this. Would the i5 coupled with the rest of the specs play all the new games at highest? That's my main priority :p, thank you.

I just ordered the i5 with the 2gb GTX 670 and 8gb RAM and from what I've read it's the best value for gaming. I've mainly heard that the i7's are optimised for things like editing and 3d modelling.

As for the AMD 8 core, don't quote me as I'm not amazing with the technical side of things but the bigger the numbers doesn't always mean the better system. I've heard the eight core is a lot less stable and gets alot hotter, plus all 8 cores are not fully utilised to their full potential. Stick with the intel. Go for the i5 unless you plan on doing things like editing in the future but then I'd suggest upgrading your RAM if that's the plan. 8GB is fine for gaming but from what I've heard it'll get eaten straight away once you start getting into rendering.

Edit: Just incase you're interested, this is the spec I just purchased. It was originally £1,031 but I changed the PSU from 750w down to 650w and also used a £15 off discount code to bring it down to £999. It's probably what made me order it to be honest! 999 looked prettier and less painful!
