I'm worried about my cpu temp's, are these temps acceptable?

Basic pc spec;

Windows 7 64bit
I5 2500
p8h67 M LX
8gb ram
gtx 560ti
COOLERMASTER ELITE 310 BLUE CASE.
stock cpu fan

I bought my pc a year ago(from pc specialist, obviously) and I haven't had any problems so far. I thought I would try and update my bios so I installed AI suit 2. I had no luck updating the drivers from the internet, it couldn't connect to the server, it didn't bother me, but that's not the problem.

I was running some software and AI suite warned me that my cpu had reached 60c, so I done some testing with core temp and prime 95, and now I'm a little worried. Core temp says my idle temps for my cores vary from 37c to 40c, I think that's within acceptable margins so that's o.k, my idle cpu speed is 34c according to AI suite. However when I run prime 95, with all cores at 100% all 4 cores heat up to over 80c and average between 84 and 87, one core even went to 92c but that was only briefly before the fan kicked up, that's what the cores were at during prime 95, the cpu temp was 63c when running this test, according to AI suite.

I understand that my cpu cores would never reach those high's during gaming, my pc has never crashed due to overheating either. I checked my cpu and the fan is on right and all that.

So am I getting paranoid, or is my cpu in peril?

You're not being paranoid, possibly just overcautious :) Firstly, Prime95 is possibly the most strenuous test you can run on a CPU, nothing will ever stress your PC out as much as this program, the temps you got are high, but the top level of what we would expect with prime, if you've not had overheating problems in the past, you should be fine, best thing you can do, play some games with HW Monitor open from www.cpuid.com, and check the highest temps, that should put your mind at ease :)

Oh, ansd AI Suite sucks for temperature monitoring, don't use it :)

Thanks, I presumed as much, I will check out HW monitor. I might scrap AI suite altogether, the fan controls wont work on it, it won't update my BIOS, now I find out its giving me the wrong cpu temp, its rubbish!

if you get the same temps from HWMonitor, which are quite high but not over alarming you could also add an extra fan to the system (your case should have a slot on side or front)

you could get something high end which will really improve temps like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Akasa-APACH...EY/ref=sr_1_26?ie=UTF8&qid=1329481629&sr=8-26

or something cheap like this which wont be quite as effective but should make a difference: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Cool...VFTE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329481743&sr=8-1

you could always clear out some of the dust from the system fans

During prime 95 test(blend) HW monitor gives me the same temps as core temp(mid 80's), while AI suite says the cpu is at 63% I understant the actual cpu temperature is different to the core's temperature but 63% is probably off, actual cpu temp is probably in the 70's, unfortunately core temp and HW monitor only give core temperatures, I guess they are what matter anyway.

After playing crysis for a few minutes max temperature's were high 70's(74c) according to HW monitor, I don't know what to make of this, its not that lower then the prime 95 test, I've been playing crysis for a year on this pc, its probably always ran that hot, but the game has never crashed due to cpu overheating to my knowledge. what should my best course of action be?

63% is the fan speed, nothing to do with the temperature although it will increase/decrease when temp, just by guessing it looks like you are on silent mode, not recommended when running prime, try a different setting (i have made my own which is above turbo mode and its pretty easy to set up) where it says silent or maybe standard, there should be a drop down box, choose user and then make it so its higher than turbo (or you can make it pretty much 100% the whole time) then click apply at the bottom of the graph, you should now hear the fans kick in and temps should drop quite a bit

Sorry 63% was a typo it was 63c, I tried changing the fan speed in fan expert, but when I change between normal to turbo fan speed remained the same, even when I changed speed in custom it stayed the same. I will try again the fan may have been at full speed already.

Is it o.k to have the cpu fan at 100% all the time?

For some reason fan xpert isn't working properly under user I set the cpu fan to go to 100% when cpu reaches 40c, under stress test the temp is over 60c and the fan still isn't at full speed.

Oh, and AI Suite sucks for temperature monitoring, don't use it :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Just disable Q-Fan in the BIOS or change the Q-Fan profile to Turbo. This is under temperature monitor, under Monitor in the UEFI BIOS.

The Ai Suite is unresponsive and doesn't do what it's supposed to 90% of the time.

That was my next step, I think ai suite could be to blame for my high temps during testing, it says my max cpu fan speed is 1862rps, but I've seen it go past 2000, and it only goes past 1600rpm when the cores reach around 80c, so it could be a fan issue, I'll switch it to turbo in the bios, and recheck. Only I need a good program to check fan speed, which one is the best?

I use HW Monitor for all my fan monitoring needs, not sure if Coretemp reads them. HW Monitor reads directly from the system readout, which is why I like it, and gives the maximu mvalue if you leave it open.

Don't use FanSpeed on anyones recommendation, it is too out of date and gives false readouts.

I went into the bios and switched cpu fan to turbo there, as ai suite was unresponsive, now the fan seems to be running at full speed, in prime 95 the cores are around 80c that's about a 5c drop. HW monitor says FANNINO1 is at 2481 and max speed is 2481, is this correct for the stock cooler?
It also says fan2 is at 510, max 512, this is the case fan I presume.
I have no clue how fast my cpu fan will actually go, its now past 2500 during the test, how can I find out what the maximum speed of the cpu fan is? the AI suite won't let my change fan speed, I presume its a setting in the bios.

One more question if anyone can help, AI suite isn't working so I can't change the fan speed with that.
Can anyone recommend the best program for adjusting my cpu fan speed? Also will I have to disable q fan to be able to adjust it through software?

At the moment with q speed set to turbo in the bios, the cpu fan goes up to 1421 when the one of the cores reaches 60c, I would like it to go higher, I know the fan can go past 2500rpm, but it only goes that fast when the cores reach 80c, and this is on the turbo setting, which I set in the bios, that's not good enough for me, I tried turning q fan off in the bios but after that the fan just stayed at around 2100rpm.
