Inferno Questions

Hey there,

I'm interested in purchasing an Inferno, and I guess I have a couple of questions for both the community and the company itself..

I'm looking at getting the laptop with an i7-3610QM, 8GB RAM and the default GT 650m. My main reason for purchasing this laptop is for some lightweight software development, and with the announcement of Steam on Ubuntu, some gaming under Linux. I'm fairly knowledgeable with regards to CPU/GPU performance on Windows, but not so much Linux (I'm not new to Linux, just never really played intensive games on it). How should the above configuration perform? I'm only really interested in Valve/Steam games right now, and have no interest in returning to Windows.

Also, does the laptop in question have PCSpecialist branding on the lid? I like the look of the lid, so if this is the case, is it possible to get it without the branding?

Thanks,
Diabhal

Welcome to our forums :)

The combination od 3610QM, 8GB RAM and the 2GB GT 650M will be great for gaming on the move - there are no other notebooks of this size that can perform to this level!

The case is not branded - at present we do not brand our notebooks.

Matte screens on the Inferno are due into stock in early October.

Any chance of getting the DDR5 650M in the inferno?

DDR5 is likely to run a lot hotter so that's probably why they don't offer it in this model. I am guessing it would have lower clocks if offered with DDR5 and higher clocks with the DDR3. My Inferno just arrived and I love it, I also have a P170HM with a GTX 680M as well. I haven't had a chance to play any games yet because I am doing a transfer of all applications and games. I am giving Sysprep a test run as I write this so will see how it goes.

I'm ready to press the button as well on this little beauty, but my desk gets direct sunlight from behind me for over half the day so I need a matte screen, so I have to wait till October :/

Some people use a matt cover but it is a pain to install apparently.

I installed a matte cover on my galaxy S3 without any problems.

As I needed the laptop for travel before October, I went ahead and ordered it with the glossy display, it's currently in building. I already have a matte screen cover from amazon for it.

Putting on a matte cover is not difficult, and though the screen quality is not the same as an actual matte screen, it at least makes the laptop usable in daylight.

A couple of simple tips when installing a matte cover:

- do it in your bathroom after running the shower to steam up the room
- take your time, it's delicate but simple enough as long as you are comfortable and not rushing

The detailed specification of 11.6" Inferno says that the maximum supported memory is 8GB. Should'nt it be 16GB instead?

Why is there only UK keyboard layout available? I would like finnish/swedish keyboard.

I'm not very satisfied of the inferno battery life. It'd be nice to see a battery with greater capacity as an option. Is this possible?

edit:
will i7-3612qm ever be available for inferno?
