since installing the display port drivers the "Generic Billboard Device" has vanished. It was showing in the settings under devices and also device manager, but it wasn't under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

I think your right and the dock isn't compatible which is a shame as its a hybrid stand and docking station.

Normal USB C docks start around the £200 mark, so that is extremely cheap in the first place.

I would always go with a known and trusted brand over a cheap amazon option.

From a brief look at reviews of Hama and their products from reputable sources (you can't trust amazon reviews, there are huge companies that purely run to leave fake reviews on Amazon and other sites), they do seem pretty poor products.

Amazon have recently been demanded by court order to prevent the fake review and fake products on their site, but they wouldn't have bothered without a court order, it's good business to them as they make money off each listing and sale, weather it's genuine or not.

I actually saw the product on the curry's website and then when i did a global search to find the best price saw it on amazon. But your right I will restart my search for an appropriate dock and stick with a trusted brand.

Just an update on my quest for adding 2 additional screens. After buying another dock an Anker 12 in 1 dock, which also did not work. I contacted PC Specialist again and from their responses I have determined usb-c docks do not work to extend or duplicate my display from my laptop. You can however use a single usb-c cable to displayport to add an additional monitor. So you would have to use the hdmi port to connect to one monitor and usb-c to displayport to connect to the other.

However the solution I found and I have to thank Spydertracks for this as he asked me to install displaylink drivers as a possible solution. When I looked into it further displaylink docks have a processor and can extend and duplicate your screen without the need for a displayport compatible USB c port and even better they are compatible with USB 3 too. Took me a few weeks to finally get this resolved. What I learnt is the USB-c port to extend or duplicate your display is a minefield so if all else fails get a displaylink dock.

Thanks for coming back as I know we (@SpyderTracks mainly) just recently answered someone else’s posts about what laptop and docking station to go for.

Are you able to give a link to the one you got in the end ?

I opted to go with a known brand. I did find a few cheaper alternatives on Amazon that had DisplayLink processors but they were chinese OEM. But the one decided to purchase was of ebay the Wavlink WL-UG69DK5, just for reference I paid £83.99 inc P&P. And it just works, after 2 unsuccessful products you can only imagine how tentative i was when i switched it on.
