You are more likely to upgrade in the future? I got a power supply thats just right for my p.c at the moment, but if I add anything big on like another graphics card I will have to get a higher one.

Thanks, I'm on 650 Watt at the moment, I might get a 1000 ish one just to be on the safe side. Whats the difference between the different makes? Any recommendations?

any of the big named makes should be fine, i chose corsair out of the options i had here at the time. I think psu are a little like hard drives, you know one day it will stop working, normally either as soon as you get it or years and years later. i guess the less you stress it the longer the life expectancy also.

and going to 1000w from 650w might be a tad overkill - post your spec and some mods will be able to offer more acurate advice i'm sure.

Sure, I can understand that aha, maybe a bit too much. I've posted them on the specs forum page anyway

I know you can use a 1050W corsair for 2xGTX580 but not sure if you will need a 1200W for 2xHD6970 just check your ordered spec on the main site and add a second card on while leaving the PSU on a low 1.

no? lol, 2 6970s should be fine with a 1000w like the 580s. if not planning to sli or crossfire then a 750w-850w psu should be perfectly fine for breathing room to cover pretty much every area.

Too used to the 1000W corsair they had when i first started coming on the forums as 2xHD6980 gets the below meassage

We notice that you have selected a 350W power supply, but based on our calculations we recommend you change your selection to a 1050W power supply because your computer could require up to 994W of power including a 20% allowance.

650W is good enough for single GTX580 or HD6950 and i would say 750W for a single HD6970.

If you want 2 x 6970's you need 1200W, thats what I will be getting anyway. With my current spec if I added another 6970 it says it would use 1020W so 1050W is just a bit too close for comfort, I would rather have the extra breathing room.

I am pretty sure that 2 6970s do not take up that much power, especially when i last looked. it should be a little less than two 580s.

Them AMD's are real power hungry thats why they are cheaper so you can afford the electricity bills ;)
