Good for what? :)

What are you using it for? Gaming? If so, what monitor are you gaming on?

Do you intend to stream to Twitch/Youtube etc?

Any uses other than gaming? What software?

What graphics card are you putting in it?

What is your budget?

What price did the above spec come to?

its for gaming
My monitor is an AOC 21 inches
the card is already in the specs its a gforce 970 GTX will buy a new one later
450 before tax 540 after tax

I guess my main question is - why?

You're gaming on a cheap 1080p 60hz monitor, with a mid-range GPU. Why buy a new computer? I don't know what your old spec is but most games are probably not going to see much benefit from the new PC.

If your old PC died in a flash of blue smoke and you need a new one..:

For straight gaming, the R5 2600x is better value - very similar performance, but much cheaper.

You are buying 1 x 16gb of slow RAM. Better to buy 2 x 8gb fast (2933MHz) RAM. Ryzen CPUs do like fast RAM, and dual channel RAM.

Stick with the stock AMD cooler. It's fine. Drop the extra case fans. The Fractal Focus G is fine with its stock fans. Spend what you save on a better quality PSU (TXm), or a better quality motherboard (B450)

my old spec is a Intel I5 5th generation quad core cpu at 2,4 ghz..... 1333 mhz ddr3 ram...... and im using an external 1 tb drive for hard drive as my 80gb sata internal drive is outdated..... i have already bought the RIG so cant make any changes now but i appreciate your input. the reason im going with 1x16 is because i know for a fact that games are going to demand 32gb in the future so I was preparing myself to add another one later.... is 500 mhz in ram speed that much of a diference even in a AMD?

Cancel the order. This is a bad plan.

Stick with your old i5, you're not going to see much of an improvement, if any, from the R7 CPU in most titles. Save up more until you can actually buy something that is at least half decent and wpn't be a dead-end for upgrades like this will be.

because i know for a fact that games are going to demand 32gb in the future
The thing is... by the time games could actually benefit from more than 16gb RAM... which won't be a long while... the rest of your system (CPU, mobo, and DDR4 RAM) will all be obsolete anyway. So even if you did add 16gb more RAM, you'd not see advantages to performance as everything else would be a bottleneck anyway.

All you're doing is hamstringing your CPU.

You can make changes to an order after placing the order, but the only change you should make is to cancel the order and save the money.

And buy a replacement drive for your existing PC in the meantime, which you could of course swap into any new PC.

You are going to get no benefit from this spec, and your upgrade planning isn't going to help you like you think it will I'm afraid

I appreciate your input but I wont cancel the order because I cant play anything these days my CPU is not good at all games keep freezing all the time the PC like it is at this moment is only ok to watch videos

... that's not because of the CPU's age. It's really, really not.

There's something else wrong with your PC, which may be easily fixable.

I appreciate you're going to just waste £500 for no reason because you want to buy something for the sake of it, and you seem to think you have a clever upgrade plan. But honestly, the spec and the plan are a total mess and need rethinking top to bottom, and your current PC should be fixable.

I do wish people didn't post topics ostensibly asking for advice but really only looking to be told how nice their terrible spec is. :(

oh uau thanks I appreciate your honesty but you really think an ntel® Corei5-750 Processor (8M Cache, 2.66 GHz) is ok for todays gaming?

my old spec is a Intel I5 5th generation
You said 5th Gen, which is Broadwell and from late 2014 and easily more than fine. So my assessment was based on that in fairness :)

Your i5-750 is definitely getting on a bit. But after a quick bit of research, to my surprise it should still be broadly okay most of the time.

Obviously more modern CPUs can push 140FPS etc. But that's irrelevant to you because you only have a 60hz monitor anyway.

The old i5 is basically fine even in CPU brutes like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, built on AnvilNext. And it's alright in Hitman too, which is also notoriously CPU heavy,

In the first screenshot, sure you get drops below 60fps in Far Cry Primal and some other titles. But if you play those on Ultra with a GTX 970, you're gonna get those kinds of drops anyway. You're going to be GPU bound and below 60fps quite a lot of the time, with or without the upgrade.

Replacing the CPU is still not going to net you as big as boost as you really should be looking at getting for this kind of money (which is fair to say is a lot of money to you that you don't get to spend very often?).

You should be able to fix up your old PC to improve performance to acceptable levels, while you save up money to get yourself something more robust, that will last you longer, have more upgrade options, and give more bang for buck.

Games on your old CPU should be at least playable.

The obvious things to try for your old PC would be:
- clean reinstallation of Windows
- clean the PC inside (for dust) and monitor temps to ensure cooling is working as it should
- run the games off Internal storage, not USB storage, which can/will cause performance issues
- if the internal storage is too small, buy a decent mid-range SSD. 500gb WD Blue 3D NAND or Crucial MX500, for £50-£60. Less on special offer.

Even if /when you do upgrade you can just swap the SSD into the new system. So a new SSD for the old system isn't dead money.

sorry for the mistake I have not been following new CPU terminologies for awhile so I assume it was an 5th generation because its called an I5.... sorry :S my bad and thanks for the help!

No worries I should have noticed that 2.4GHz was a bit low for Broadwell and asked instead of just assuming.

I do think you should cancel the order. Your current system should be fixable a decent standard. That will let you save money to get something better value when you do decide to upgrade. Something more balanced too.
