Just got my order... mouse won't move

So I just got my new desktop from pcspecialist.co.uk. I was in the process of reinstalling windows 7, when I noticed my mouse was just permantly stuck up in the top left corner. The mouse is detected, the lights are on. But it won't move. I've tried my spare mouse, and every single usb port. No luck.

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to have to send this back. Support line is down until tomorrow, so I'm just hoping someone has an idea on how to resolve this issue in the meantime.

When you plug your mouse in do you hear any tones etc. (like the ones you'd hear when you plug in or unplug any USB)

How far through the installation process did you get?

Does your keyboard work? Does any other USB device work?

I don't know about sounds, but I've just made a little progress.

I went into the bios menu, and the mouse works perfectly in there. But as soon as I exit, the mouse stops working. On the windows 7 installation screen, neither the mouse nor the keyboard work at all. But what is strange is, the keyboard did work before, but not the mouse. I was able to type in my product key and advance a few screens pressing enter. But then when it got to the part where you need to click accept... well obviously I couldn't click it so thats as far as I got.

I'd probably go about trying to reinstall windows again. Something has clearly gone amuck somewhere, probably something to do with the USB drivers. It'll be difficult to rectify without being able to use the mouse or keyboard though.

I don't understand how this could happen? I got an email saying this PC will be in testing for 24-48 hours. How could this have gone unnoticed if there was this much testing done?

Heres an update on the situation.

So the mouse/keyboard work in BIOs. But upon installation setup, they both turn off. Somehow on one reboot it managed to recognize the keyboard (mouse still off), so I was able to install windows using tab + enter. So then finally gets into windows, now the mouse lights up.. yet it still doesn't work, it just won't move at all.

Upon checking out back of the pc where the grid that you can see through is... it appears theres some pieces of melted plastic on the inside? And theres a little copper looking thing that is in circles, and some of them seem kinda melted or something? Is this normal, like it needs to be melded on or something and thats why it's there? I have no idea what it is.

Send us a picture of the melted metal.

Also PCS do test the machines, it seems to be a problem with your windows installation, since it was working in the BIOS and before you reinstalled it.

Have you tried using a different mouse and keyboard?

It looks to me like your problem is software related not hardware. I agree with the suggestion to try reinstalling Windows again. Windows comes with basic drivers to oiperate most keyboard and mice, it may not provide the complete functionality but they will work. I would think something went askew during your install.

Before reinstalling windows I would boot into safe mode to see if they work in safe mode as they will only use the default windows drivers

I think you are looking into the power supply going by your description of the melted plastic etc, some picture's would be nice.

I'm sorry for the late reply, I'v been too busy to get back here. Eventually I was able to get the mouse keyboard working by restoring the pc to an earlier state. So yes, it works. And I have to say, I'm mostly pretty impressed with how well the pc works. BUT, I'm really quite worried about it too. Twice I've had the pc basically stop functioning completly. Mouse stops responding, im usually playing music or a video or something and it starts breaking up the sound like its stopping and starting. Eventually it goes back to normal. But all this, then the melted plastic... then the PC not even being capable of using my mouse/keyboard has left me with a really unsettling feeling :(

About the pics, they are really blurry and hard to see. I couldn't get any better, shall I upload them anyways?
