Hi all,

I just ordered this yesterday. I was reading all the forums, but the registration has been broken so havent been able to log on.

Plenty of time for adjustments - i guess.

So can you have a look, any comments really welcome, especially any cost cutting! ha

I dont have a monitor yet, so will look into that in due course ... i was thinking the Samsung Odyssey G7 from my initial (brief) searches.

Also am I wrong? But it is cheaper to just get a Windows Key externally than buying from PCS?

Mike

For myself I would have went with this. As for Windows the advantage of getting it from PCS is that they configure windows for you in the set up, but if you're experienced at doing that then sure get a Windows key elsewhere

The G7 would be a decent pairing for that card too. Although I have the G5 and it's fantastic, not sure how much the 240Hz is needed though? What is this computer for

planning on using it mostly for email/browsing if i'm frankly perfectly honest with you

but also want to play a few games from time to time too - nothing specific , maybe MS Flight Sim, CS, i'm a in/out sort of gamer. would be more interested if i had a good machine.

That's the top of the line cooler for an extra £8, seems like a no brainer.

Didn't just cut the storage though I changed it completely 500GB Samsung M2 for your OS and then another 1TB M2 for your games.

If it's just general gaming use then I'd say get a G5 over the G7. The G7 is really only suited to competitive gamers who only only play competitive. The G5 will suit you nicely

thats really good advice about the monitor thanks

thats money saved too!

sorry whats the reasons you changed/chose the storage compared to what I did?

oh i just noticed you changed the mother board too

thats a good call is it?
The Stixx motherboard is absolutely fantastic if you have the spare cash go that route if you like, I think that Mobo is more suited the 5900X but hey the 5800X could definitely shine on it as well. The TUF X570 is more than capable of handling the 5800X though so I went with that to help save a few £

As for the storage I always recommend two separate drives, the 980Pro is lightening quick so I would use that for the operating system and a few key programs then games would go on the 1TB M2 which is also extremely fast but not like the 980 Pro.

The benefit of having two drives and more importantly a dedicated OS drive means you can make changes to, update and even completely remove the OS without ever affecting your personal files. If you have to completely reinstall Windows you wont lose personal files and wont have to redownload all your games again

any advice about the power supply?

the one thing the PCS build tool seem adamant on is not ordering a bigger one than you need
Upping the powersupply just gives the computer more longevity. Give it more room to breath meaning in terms of powerflow extending the life of both the PSU and other parts. It will also allow more room for upgrades and to add components and of course it'll run quieter

PCS power calculator is very misleading, it's the recommended amount to minimally run the components not what they components actually consume when they are running flatout and comsuming the maximum amount of power

Also, the RMX models are fully modular, rather than semi-modular, like the TXm ones (not that the TXm are poor quality, they are good bits of kit). As SteveyG says, it is better for them not to be working flat out and it is a good idea to have headroom for future GPU upgrades.

sorry to be an idiot... but the benefit of modular is....?

If you are getting Windows elsewhere, make sure you get it from a reputable source. If it seems very cheap, it is likely to be an illegal copy that could leave your PC not working and leave you liable to action from Microsoft.

I wouldn’t bother with a Strix unless it is a 3080 or 3090. It may be different on PCS, i haven’t looked, but generally... a strix card is so much more, that with non-top cards, it is close in price to the next card up and nowhere near the same performance.

Edit: For an extra £3, you can get a 6800XT for instance

i upped the power supply as you suggested, going to install my own windows as its easy enough

excited to see my order has gone from processing to 'in building' and now 'in testing' all this morning

i take it these big(ish) manufacturers are not having too bad supply restraints on graphics cards? i was going to self build but decided against it because i couldnt be bothered with the hassle of sourcing my own GPU

It’s a worldwide stock shortage, it’s affecting everyone unfortunately.
At the moment the worst affected are 3080, RX6800XT and the 3060ti, the rest don’t seem too bad.

but those you could be waiting up to 100 working days.

The 3070 is one of the better stocks, usually despatched in around 15 working days.
